Well the R4 is launched. It looks nice. I've been waiting so I can put in an order but 2 things are a bit of a disappointment to me. I've love to get your thoughts...
I took a look and compared to my 21 R3....overall not impressed. The swim step is short...the passenger seating is now one person vs. 1.5/2, the seating height in the bow area at least seems shorter in comparison maybe because of the underfloor storage? In the motorbox, they dramatically reduced storage in my opinion by moving the batteries forward....in mine the batteries are at the back and out of the way. Looks like they also lost the rumble seat which we use all the time. And I personally just dont care for the overall "look"...

Relieved here - I've been getting the release teasers like everyone else and had the old "maybe we should have waited" thing. We ordered and took delivery of a '21 CS22 that we're really pleased with. Like others, today I noticed the swim deck size, and also the lack of a stern storage hatch (on the CS's, I know it's not an R thing) and the way the stern walk through doesn't open with the engine cover-really seems to cut off what is a ton of storage in ours. The new interior surfaces will take some getting used to. I tend to like a more plush look. I know the R's have higher freeboard, but I just like the sculpted look of the older boats and the stern on our CS. I hope Cobalt doesn't end up with a full product line that you have to squint at to figure out what the heck it is.

I agree with all of this I think… Although in the build it looks like the rumble seat is an option. Strange.

Heavy boat. 600# more than an R5 even. R3 people still seem pretty happy with a 300 or 350. Think that boat weight needs to go no less than 380.
Yeah, we're happy with the 300, even when people here make fun of us!

I have a 300 in my 24sx. Pretty much the same power to weight ratio as your boat. I'm pleased with the performance

I agree with you on the odd series R's. Very disappointed particularly with the hull deign. They reduced the deadrise from 21 to 17 and removed the extended running surface. With the acquisition by Malibu they seam to be 100% focus on lake boating. Missing a huge market along the coast.
