Need Help on R4 Colors

Post by BRDad »

Hi All. I’m looking for some help on colors for my R4 that’s on order. I have to make my final decision in the next 14 days before it enters the build phase.

I was able to see an R6 Surf that my local dealer had ordered for another customer. The image of the boat I saw is below. It’s Navy and White with Carmel interior. It looked really sharp. I like that it's classic colors but still feels fresh and modern.

The R4 I’m getting is NOT the SURF so the color way options are a bit different. I’m thinking I want to get close to the R6 that I saw but I’d love your thoughts.

Trying to decide on white stripe vs. frost grey strip. Maybe frost grey stripe feel a bit fresher? Also on the tower I like black better than white.

Navy with Frost:

Navy with White:

This is an R6-OB that the dealer had that was Navy with Frost. Not exactly how it would look but similar.

Anyway...I'd really love some thoughts. Thanks!!

Fun times. Building "your dream" as Cobalt puts it.

Personally dont like the frost stripe. My least favorite. Drop that from the running. If trying to replicate the R6 surf you looked at would suggest 2 options.

Option 1- switching the tower to white. Not much black on the boat (r4) except some interior bits. Think the white tower would be better as you have designed it. Keep the canvas navy and stripe white.

Option 2- Switch the stripe to black. Keep the tower white and go with black top on the tower. Feel the black on the stripe, tower top and interior bits would be a great match. Basically similar to the R6 surf you saw. Note the R6 surf you looked at has the black windshield frame. Makes the canvas top, windshield and interior blacks match on the R6 surf very nicely. To get the same effect feel you need to make the black stripe.

All navy looks sharp but oxidizes quickly. I like the very first pic that limits the use of navy a little. Just me though.

Thanks for your thoughts. All totally valid and I'll play around with it.

For option 2 I'll try it. I know what you are saying about the white windshield. I absolutely love that but I think it is only a SURF option. I was actually going to look into have it wrapped in black to get the similar effect.

Any thoughts on going Navy bottom vs. white bottom?

Oxidation is one of my concerns. It is going to be on a lift from May - Spet at a high altitude with considerable sun. I guess my place was just to make sure it gets a great polish and wax after each year?

I agree with you on your comment of using less navy like the one in the first picture. The non-serve version doesn’t give as many options for color changes. Can’t control as many of the panels if that makes sense.

Thoughts on going with the white bottom instead? That would limit the amount of blue?

Thanks!!

White tower navy hull and bottom, yellow boot stripe. You want classic, navy and yellow screams classic Cobalt! I am NOT a fan of the new carmel interiors either, but that’s just me.. Oh and a BB!

I like second one on the build sheet. The white arch blending into the white top; the white bottom accentuates the blue side.
I didn't know windlass was available...nice.
Not a fan of carmel either. White is cooler, but I'm old fashioned.
Exciting time for you and your family.
Congratulations.

.
+1
...and after having owned both a white hull with blue stripe and a mostly-dark blue hull with gray stripe, I think I prefer the white for it's low maintenance which slightly outweighs the sharper looks of the non-oxidized dark hull. (but then again it sure looks purrrrty when non-oxidized). Maybe you can get the cover with skirts. 8-)
