Re: 1998 252 updating thread
Man, what a nightmare this has been.
So, the engine rebuild is taking MUCH longer than I thought it should. It's been 7 months and I don't even have a short block yet.
The Power pole "Charge" doesn't work unless you have a 24 or 36 volt system on the other side. Meaning it will charge the 12V starting abttery, but it must also go to a 24 or 36V battery bank. It would not charge another 12V set of batteries. I was very disappointed it wouldn't work for me.
Now I've purchased a replacement "drop in ready" engine to stick in the boat just so we can go out. Found me a gen V 7.4L. What a major step BACKWARDS. Started with 502 MPI, stepped up to a HP 500, and now a 7.4L.
And on top of that, my local mechanic has now retired and I'm stuck trying to find another. All during peak season.
Funny how that still doesn't stop me though. I am making some changes to the stereo system.
Getting rid of the MHD 900/5 and installing the Wet Sounds Syn DX 6 to replace it. 400W to the tower speakers and 600W to the sub
Swapping the JL M6 8.8 ETX tower speakers for the Wet Sounds Rev 10's with swivel clamps and light rings.
I'll post up some pics when this starts taking shape. Right now, I NEED to get the engine installed first.

Wow...some set backs for sure but way to hang in there X.
I like the changes you're making to the amps and tower speakers. Hopefully that will go smoothly. Looking forward to a pic or two once complete.

Re: 1998 252 updating thread
Took the time to paint the bilge since there's nothing in it.
Have a temp engine waiting for install and was notified the lag bolts holding the motor mounts down STRIPPED.
So I used a hole saw and drilled a hole through the side. Taped a string to the top of the bolts. And pulled them up through the holes. Applied some sealant to the hole and installed the motor mount, washer and nylock nuts. Used the hole I drilled to put a wrench on the head of the bolts and torqued the nuts down. Squeezed some silicone sealant around the hole i drilled and around the "plug" I removed from it. Put a piece of duct tape on the "plug" and stuck it in the hole while the tape holds it in place until it cures.
Nice and solid mounts now.
And I can remove the "plugs" if I ever need to remove the motor mounts.

That bilge looks good enough to eat off of. Looking good!
Bummer about your engine mounts though

I absolutely agree with you. I've been trying since the spring.
I hate relying on other people for stuff. I like to do everything myself, but this is one of those things I cannot do.

Re: 1998 252 updating thread
Did not know.
Bought that engine about a month ago. Took that long to get it installed.
Not real happy with it either....
Rusted out pretty good. Seller spray painted it so it would look good in the pics.

Re: 1998 252 updating thread
Engine is pretty much wrapped up. Need to get all my elec and batteries back together.
It's been 90* here, so we've been going out on my buddy's boat instead of getting things done. That's why I'm moving at a snail's pace.
I did have to remove the top section of my wake tower to fit inside the mechanic's bay door for the engine install. Got the tower rewired with larger speaker wire (14ga) and the 12v + and - for the tower light. Now that's all back together.
Need to make the light and tower speaker connections, then install the speaker clamps.
