New Model, R33

Post by Holy Smokes »

Are we not discussing this? Who's got the scoop?!?

Ripped from Bill Prince Yacht Design (in WI) FB page.

It’s been two years in the making but tonight we can finally share the news about these exciting new boats from Cobalt, the world’s largest builder of sterndrive-powered boats.
The BPYD-engineered Cobalt R33 series is making its world debut at the 2022 Miami Boat Show. Available with seven different engine options in gas, diesel and outboards, there are two hull shapes for outboard and sterndrive versions, two decks for same, and dozens of fiberglass molds required to build each individually-optioned R33.
The result? A whopping 63mph top speed for the 900hp triple outboard version. Let ‘er rip!
Congratulations to the crew at Cobalt for building such high quality boats in the USA. 🇺🇸

Wow. 900HP is awesome.
What actually surprised me more was the statement “world’s largest builder of sterndrive-powered boats”

I would have thought that would be Formula or Sea Ray.
Shows how much other manufacturers have focused on outboards.

Nice work Smokes, you just beat me to it. This supposedly replaces the R30, and seems a bit bigger to me than that boat. It certainly has to be wider with almost 10' of width inside the cockpit (Futrell Marine posted that - see pic). It also has 42 cupholders.....so you know places to put your 42 drinks :D And most surprising of all is the partnership with Harmon Kardon. Not that I follow this stuff that closely but my understanding is their quality took a nose dive for awhile. I used to own a receiver of theirs and loved it but that was many moons ago.

Overall I think it looks amazing and I want one.

Also like the gunnel door. Nice touch for a boat like that. Sorry for some reason the Futrell pic wont post. Its out there in FB land if you are there. Just search R33.

Smart having outboard and sterndrive versions to pick up big lake boaters as well as the offshore/near shore ocean crowd. The gunwale door should make for easier boarding, and is a nice touch. Looks sharp, too.

I don't remember seeing Harman Kardon marine speakers in a Cobalt before. I love my Roswell speakers, but they don't exactly have the same name recognition.

You'd think at my age I'd be used to things changing... ;)

42 cup holders, if I took my kids and their friends out on it they would have 43 empty water bottles and cans in them! Hopefully there is a dedicated garbage can like they missed the ball and didn’t put one in my R5. That’s my only complaint about my R5. The boat looks nice though!

Diesel option? That's new. Harmon Kardon---I'll pass on that. It's nice, but even if I could afford it, not sure I would. 42 cup holders makes me laugh...just like Subaru put 19 cup holders in one of their SUV's.....when did that become a status symbol. Honestly, the interior reminds me of Sea Ray at little bit. For some reason, as Cobalts scale up in size, I don't care for the lines as well as I do in the 24-28ft range. I honestly don't think i like it (hated the new A series as well)

Strange huh?

It’s great to see them offer outboard options over 30 feet but I personally don’t like the looks of this one as much as some other saltwater boats in that 32-36 foot size. I’m not sure triple 300’s makes as much sense as dual Merc 450s or Yamaha 425s.

If everything goes right I’ll be shopping for a used 33-38 footer when we are empty nesters in 15 months. My use would be all saltwater down in Naples and I’ve got my eye on a couple different models from Tiara and Scout such as this one. When at the helm, I want to have full protection from the front windshield all the way up to the fiberglass top for when things get rough.

Thats awesome Bum. Congrats to you and your wife. Tiara and Scout boats are both awesome. Just depends on what you want there. I love the Scout boats and some of the features they have going (drop down gunnel is really cool). Not sure Cobalt would be my first choice for offshore. I know Cobalt is pushing these for more offshore applications but I believe they have a bit to go. Even this R33 I view as more of a lake boat and thats how I typically judge most Cobalts.
