Missouri Lakes
Missouri Lakes
I’m up in KC and new to boating in this area, so looking for info on some of the lakes around the area. I keep my boat near Smithville Lake and have been on that once and it was good, but for a weekend, do any of you Missouri members recommend other lakes? I don’t really have the time to make it to Table Rock, so I’m thinking either Harry S Truman or Stockton…any recs on either of those?
Thanks,
Tim
Thanks,
Tim

Re: Missouri Lakes
Hey Tim,
We boat at Smithville as well, our favorite is table rock but if that’s too far you should try Pomme de terre. I believe it’s only about 2.5 hours. It’s a great Lake for a weekend trip. If you look on VRBO there are areas around there that you can rent a small home, nothing on the water that I know of; but we have had some great weekend trips down there.
Stockton is also nice, but I’d rank Pomme de terre above Stockton as it’s not as windy, i’ve never been on Truman.
Hope to see you on Smithville, we usually only frequent that lake during the week, on the weekend it can get pretty busy.
Have fun exploring!

Re: Missouri Lakes
I haven’t been since I was a kid but Truman has a reputation as a shallower fishing lake with lots of trees underwater.
There is also Lake Ozark. Never been to Stockton but I’ve heard it’s pretty water……and very windy

Thanks! Anxious to try out some of the other Missouri lakes, when we can get out for a long weekend or vacation week. Right now, enjoying Smithville(super close) and will check out a couple 2-2.5 hour drive lakes on an upcoming Saturday(Stockton, Truman, or Pomme de Terre).Table Rockin wrote: Sun Jun 12, 2022 3:53 pm I haven’t been since I was a kid but Truman has a reputation as a shallower fishing lake with lots of trees underwater.

Re: Missouri Lakes
I’d be careful on Truman, as Table Rock’n said I’ve also heard that it’s a shallow lake and can eat props. With the supply issues going on right now if you banged up a prop that could end your season.

Re: Missouri Lakes
Welcome to the Smithville area. I've been on Pomme de Terre and it was a super experience each time. Friends have a house and boat next to Pomme. Hope to see you on Smithville some day.

Re: Missouri Lakes
Thanks! How deep is Pomme de Terre? One of the online sites says deepest part is 23 feet, so I had kinda ruled that out thinking it was too shallow.RWM250 wrote: Mon Jun 13, 2022 1:59 pm Welcome to the Smithville area. Not sure how deep Pomme is, but the boating and swimming was good.Tandjmei8 wrote: Mon Jun 13, 2022 5:39 pmThanks! How deep is Pomme de Terre? Re: Missouri Lakes
Pomme at its deepest is around 70' - up the two rivers runs 30+' It's not big but good boating!

Re: Missouri Lakes
Come to Stockton! You'll love it! A few places to eat(State Park Marina, Mutton creek, and Orleans Trail). Also plenty of places to stay. I like to call it "Mini Table Rock " we try to boat there every weekend. The Rock quarry is where we sometimes tie up and relax, or any cove for that matter.

You have to check out the quarry at Stockton at least once. May be windy getting to it but never windy inside.Dhooghe81 wrote: Tue Jun 14, 2022 10:24 am Come to Stockton! You'll love it! I think my wife and I are going to be out there Saturday w/out the kids, celebrating our 26th anniversary. If I see you, I’ll say hi.Dhooghe81 wrote: Tue Jun 14, 2022 10:24 am Come to Stockton!
