My 2014 came with the BT Play enabled. I’m able to step through BT, FM, AM , and SiriusXM using the Mode tab in the upper left hand corner of the radio head. Don’t remember the order.
If I plug into the Port side USB the radio automatically switches to USB and the phone begins charging.
I agree, the Port side USB has never worked well. I much prefer using Spotify with BT. Hope this helps!

By 2019, port side USB works great. That's all we use. It made me get Apple Music on all our phones.

The Command Strip idea worked great initially, but the Florida heat and humidity eventually took their toll.
After replacing twice I decided to drill a few holes.
Used double male-female adapters to tie into the 12Volt accessory/lighter plug at the helm.

Thanks for the pics and write up. Once you drilled the holes, did you use screws that secure into the fiberglass through the fabric, or did you use bolts that secure on the other side of the fiberglass with a nut?

Fourmasons, have you had your phone overheat in direct sunlight there yet? I like the idea of mounting it there but I’ve left my phone sitting on the top of the dash a few times and it has shut down from being too hot.

Anywhere the sun can sit and beat on your phone it's going to over heat. I think if your coved you should put it on the shade. Just me.

I just put my cell phone in the mesh pocket below the throttle. I really don’t want to look at it while I’m on the boat anyway...

I have to update this thread because the phone holder/charger mod is different for my R6. I did not order it with the boat, and bought the same one as above.

Drilling pilot holes and securing the holder/charger directly to the fiberglass should be plenty strong enough. I asked the question earlier about using bolts, but they are not necessary.

Double Male/Female adapter will not work as there are no connectors as in the pic on the back of the 12v accessory. It's all hard wired. So I had to cut into the wire going to the 12v accessory and splice the wire for the phone holder/charger.

The wire for the phone holder/charger is much smaller so I'm worried I didn't crimp it perfectly and it may come loose over time. I did put some electric tape on it, but heat shrink would have been better had I had better access.
