Do you ever ask yourself? Man I wish I had that smaller engine!
I know, dealer says 300 is quicker to get on plane than 350 because of weight, said only diff is 2 mph top end? 380 is out of budget or that sounds like perfect match
Never believe the dealer. The things I have heard them say are ridiculous. The 300 and 350 are the same block and weight is identical. The 350 puts out a bit more torque above 4K RPM's so up to that point their performance should be similar. With that said the R4 is bit heavier than the R3 and because of that I would lean toward the 350 or above.

Update, admiral has asked how much more for an R6, I think I’m only 10k away with the options I put in the R4. Gonna have to build some more lol. Of course they still haven’t put up 23 pricing, wonder how much it will go up

Help me out here

Do I have this correct? You went to your admiral to negotiate a larger engine / expense on an R4 and she greenlighted a larger boat all together? Was a diamond or a drunk on high end bubbly involved in this apparently very successful negotiation?

I'm trying to learn and build justifications to present to my admiral when I eventually go for my upgrade.

I'm really not sure how this occurred. We visited the dealer together and priced an R4, between her and the dealer my 350 got deleted. We've been rebuilding the boat a few hundred ways and somewhere in between builds I slowly moved back into the 350 and then a 380 lol. I quoted BigBlock in saying if we go with the motor I really want I'll actually keep the boat longer instead of trading after 2 seasons. At that point I said we might be better off with an R6 and I'd even go down to a 350 to make it happen, rather than order the most expensive R4 on the planet, for resale purposes of course. Once she saw the difference in swim platform size and the head, she said let's price it!

This is also very true. In the used boat market why would anyone even look an R4 priced over a same or newer R6??

UPDATE - OK, I've got the admiral interested in the R6 with a 380. Pacific Blue with Black bottom and a white stripe / white tower, with frost / slate interior. Waiting on final price from dealer now, was able to see a customer's ordered boat yesterday which really locked us on the R6. We switched colors last minute based on the boat we saw, we were going navy / navy but that pacific blue was beautiful! I guess the budget has set sail....

Frost Slate Interior, $1846
Hull Bottom Full Color, $1469
Bow Tonneau Cover, $531
Cockpit Tonneau Cover, $1331
Glass Cockpit, Dual Garmin 8610, $6047
Wireless Phone Charger, w/Holder, $308
Prem Sound w/Transom Spkrs., $3607
White Arch, Alum, Folding w/Bimini, $10046
Docking Lights-Stainless Steel, $657
Flagpole w/Flag, $668
Portal Light (1 in Head Compartment), $885
Sof-Trac Mat, Gunwales, $193
Sof-Trac Mat, Swim Platform w/Flip-Down Swim Step, $1160
Swim Platform Transom Lighting, $550
Air Compressor w/Holder, $291
Bow Filler Cushions, $1168
Dinette Table w/Teak Accent, $1501
LED Interior Accent Lighting (RGB), $2424
Sof-Trac Mat, Cockpit, $2146
Storage Compartment Lighting, $228

I think you have some very good negotiating skills. Well, at least when it comes to your Admiral. The boat you have in the picture is perfect IMO.

I thought I was doing good this summer. I somehow convinced (no alcohol involved either) my Admiral to go from a '07 Rinker 192, to the '14 Cobalt 242 we have now. It's been a good summer.

Nice boat!

If the air compressor is the same one that came with our boat, then it is a complete waste of money. I think ours is white, but whatever color it is the air output is feeble. We get more air output from a simple Coleman cordless air pump than this piece of junk. We fill up the tube with the Coleman, then top off the pressure with a hand operated air pump to get the tube super firm.

I totlally agree on the compressor, waste of money!!!! Also the table is cool and sounds like a good idea... but depending on how you boat you may not use it as much as you think. We used ours one time and then after that it was just too cumbersome to get out. That is the only option I've ever ordered that I didn't re-order on our new boat.

Thanks for the input on the compressor! The table we had on our R3, used it a lot on cocktail cruises

I still think the table is just too heavy. I would just use a plastic one in its place and still use all of the Cobalt hardware

Plus one on the 300 and 350 being the same weight. No difference in size or weight, only the ECU
