Bought My 2nd Cobalt

Post by ajcampen »

Well folks....super happy with my new purchase. I bought a 2016 R7 and I am having a Loadmaster trailer built for it. Can't wait to pick it up in April and bring it back to Ohio once the trailer is available.

My first updates are going to be adding JL M6 7.7 tower speakers, a typhoon samson rack, and updating the fuel hose line with a spin on/off barb fitting. Those are all things I have on my other Cobalt that I have enjoyed immensely. If you know of anyone looking for a 220s, please send them my way.

The pic is one that i found of the boat when it was delivered new.

That's a huge step up, and I'm convinced the boats from that time frame are sort of a sweet spot for modern design and quality. Congrats!

So the story with the color scheme is the guy who ordered it wanted something different than the all white with red boot stripe cobalts that are all over his lake. So he added the American flag bottom. 😂

your gonna absolutely love this boat coming from a 220. It doesnt get much better for a 28' inland lake boat.

For long term storage of the engine you have to run the oil / gas mix through it. I am removing the current fuel line elbow fuel barb and replacing with a barb fitting that can spin on and off. Many find it difficult to get the hose off the barbs. This makes it easy. Two mfg use the part and it is approved for fuel and marine usage

Interesting!

So far I am reluctant to run an oil gas mixture through my engine since it has cats so I don't do that as part of my winterization...yet!

I have cats on my merc and I also hear that you are not supposed to. The operating manual for merc and Volvo both specify the same process. However, Merc help line, often staffed with old mechanics, is adiment that it should be done on layup. Been doing it for 5 years and so far no problem.

If it was a car, as the CATS degrade, you would get a code set and the engine would go in a fail safe mode. Not sure if that would happen with our engines. I am sure the cats get degraded over time with an oil mixture so it's probably a gradual degradation. It's one of those damned if you do damned if you don't situation since you are trading one set of issues for another.

My boat is stored in a very dry climate in Nevada so the choice is easy for me. For places with high humidity, it might be different.

Putting oil into an engine with cats is also another reason I would never use SeaFoam in any vehicle with a cat.
