New to East Coast...Virginia

Hi everyone,

As the subject line states, I (we) are new to the East Coast boating community. Just got a Cobalt to enjoy inner-coastal waters, lakes, and it seems a lot of bays in the area. Coming from Alaska, our biggest issue was if a whale was going to breach while fishing. Anyhow, I am curious if anyone has experienced issues with the brackish waters? We have the Volvo Penta and its been a LONG time since I have owned an inboard. My zen is some Def Leppard, a 6 pack and hand washing/flushing the boat after every single use, regardless of water type, and feel this has preserved many boats in the past.

Any East Coast boating advice, places, or general knowledge would be appreciated.

Whittier, AK. Our favorite destination. You could go 80+ miles out and still have some islands to explore and use for shelter when the not so perfect weather was setting in.

No experience with brackish waters but I'd guess your normal routine would work.
Never was into Def Leopard until I went to a Van Halen concert (Jump tour), and there was no opening act so they played Pyromania. I've been a fan since then.

Don't over think the brackish/SW concern,
You don't mention what you are running but hopefully you have a closed cool system or at least a flush port. If you have a fairly recent VP you should be covered.
If you will be wet slipped then you will need to bottom paint the boat and outdrive. I highly recommend hitting the engine with Boeshield at the end of the season.

Seems like a great boating community to be involved in. We have a 2013 26SD with 320hp V.P so it does have the built in flush system. @stifflkd, I have not heard of Boeshield but will definitely make wise decisions over a few drinks tonight.

Looking forward to hearing from all the assembled experience we have here.
