throttle and shift cable lubrication

looked but couldn't find a thread...
Anyone know of a video or well written guide to lubricating a Volvo Penta throttle and shift cables? Also, is it recommended to take apart the side mounted shift/throttle controller and grease any gears and/or other moving parts? Thanks in advance.

The cables are not meant to be lubricated. If they are stiff, you replace.

The sheath is a plastic material. It wears which causes the cables to bind. Any lubrication you do will be temporary.

So..which cable is binding?

If it's the shift, is the boat used in salt water? Is the drive always stored in the down position when stored?

Thanks. I've read the same. I'll likely ask a friend with a R3 if I can maneuver the lever on his boat to determine if it's just me or the equipment.
