Quick intro

Post by charron »

I’ve been lurking on this site for a few months but just joined tonite. I’m from Massachusetts but spend most of my summers on Sebago Lake in Maine (where they call us “massholes”). I grew up boating but just bought my first boat a year ago; a 25 foot premier pontoon. It was good for my large family and friends but when I ran into a friend on the lake on his new R3, I knew I was in the wrong boat! So I sold the pontoon and went to my Cobalt dealer hoping to show my wife that we needed an R3 but we quickly realized that we’d need the extra room of an R5. I test drove the R5 and loved it...but before I made my decision the dealer said to try the R7. I was sold on it! Might as well buy the best boat I can(t) afford, right?! We placed our order last week for a Navy Blue R7 with shale boot stripe and Tahoe grey interior powered by a 380hp VP. I can’t wait until next summer!

Curious how you and your wife will use your new baby?

I saw that too. We love Sebago. It’s the second largest lake in Maine, is super clean (it supplies the drinking water for over 1m people in the Portland Maine area), and not too busy compared to similar lakes nearby. I’m at my happiest when I’m up there.

We have 4 teenage boys so we’ll probably spend 10% of our time doing water sports, 40% cruising, 40% hanging at the sandbar and the remaining 10% yelling at them to keep the boat clean, pick up their trash, get their shoes off the seats etc. :P

Very cool charron!

With 4 teenage boys I''ll bet your water sports percentage will go up. Ours was/is 90% water sports with 3 teenagers plus their friends and cousins. :D You'll make some priceless memories with your family on her. Congrats!

Welcome.
Kind of the same path we traveled. Looked at the R5, and loved it, but the R7’s extra foot in the bow and extra foot in the side seating/cockpit length just makes it twice the boat for a small percentage more. You only order these things once..
Since our orders are similar, here’s a couple pics to keep your heart pounding. 🤣
