Yes those come with air suspensions as standard. Makes quite a difference.

I rented the F250 from HD before, to go pickup a trailer from a trailer rental place that you must have a 3/4 ton truck or larger to rent the trailer, yes, even if it was an empty trailer). I got to the trailer rental place, and went to put in my receiver, and low and behold some jack wagon had placed a weld bead inside the trucks hitch, which made it un-usable. Returned the truck in less than 10 minutes after I rented it. Check the rental trucks and make sure the hitch is actually usable if you guys are renting for that reason. That's the only reason I would need to rent a truck, as I have 3 otherwise. I was a bit ticked for sure to find this out after I had rented the truck already.jhnmdahl wrote: Thu Jan 16, 2025 9:36 pm Jimmy, I rented an F250 flatbed truck with a hitch from Home Depot for a similar $20 deal (ends up being more with various fees) when I had to move our boat once when the Touareg was in the shop for several days. It's a great thing to have as a fallback, or if you just don't need it that often.

Newest tow vehicle. Still have our 2024 3/4T GMC Denali but use our new Rivian R1T to tow the boat up the hill from Gardnerville to Lake Tahoe.
I use an Anderson WDH with it.

First time I've actually seen ANY electric truck/suv doing some actual towing.
Well, what's the verdict? You should start a new thread, to give others on the interwebs your thoughts on real world towing when compared to a modern 3/4 ton truck.

It's only a 40 mile drive but with 2600 feet elevation gain to bring the boat from it's storage location to my home in Lake Tahoe. Towed as easily as my 2024 GMC Denali with the 6.6L gas engine. In fact, the Rivian has more power. The weight of the Rivian R1T is around the same as my 3/4T GMC because I bought it with the 420 mile battery pack.NautiWeasel wrote: Thu May 15, 2025 8:52 am First time I've actually seen ANY electric truck/suv doing some actual towing.

This truck has a 4 wheel air suspension that would be able to level the truck but I always chose to use a WDH with a tongue weight over 500#. My setup has a tongue weight of 600# when it was totally empty a few years ago. Might weigh more now.
I wouldn't use this to tow if I had to recharge along the trip. I launch my boat in the spring and pull it out in the fall so it only requires a small amount of towing. By using the Rivian, I don't have to bring my GMC all the way up from Los Angeles to Lake Tahoe for that short 40 mile tow. I much rather drive the Rivian for that LA to Tahoe trip.
The 3/4T GMC is pretty much only used to tow our travel trailer. We do a lot of camping in fall, winter and spring.
I did have a request of what the Anderson WDH looks like installed. There is a lot going on in this picture but you can tell what chains go to the WDH and what are the safety chains. The power cord running along the top of the coupler is the power for the EOH brakes. Obviously, you could never use a hitch like this with surge brakes. I locked out my surge coupler and removed the master cylinder.

Re: Let's see your Tow rigs with your boat!
Great real life review, and thanks for taking the time to write it, and post a picture. As a fellow RV'r and boat owner (I used to tow twice to the lake, once with the camper, then back home to grab the Cobalt) I can appreciate that setup, and still with my RV dealer wouldn't have talked me out of the Andersen I already had, and into the Husky WDH that I currently use. Not that I dislike the Husky, and it performs very well, I still with I would have used the Andersen instead. Far superior design, and the weight savings are off the chart.bruceb58 wrote: Sun May 18, 2025 1:10 amIt's only a 40 mile drive but with 2600 feet elevation gain to bring the boat from it's storage location to my home in Lake Tahoe. It’s a little down in the rear but that’s what happens with a soft suspension.

Re: Let's see your Tow rigs with your boat!
We purchased a good used truck for my daughter to drive to school and work. She wanted a truck, and my only stipulations were a 1997 or newer (for dual airbags) and that it was capable of pulling the boat when needed. This would be when going to or coming home from camping trips. My truck pulls the camper on those occasions, and we would need something capable of just getting the boat there and back, so I didn't have to drive twice each time.
Although the boat is pretty close to the maximum capacity for this truck, If you drive accordingly, and leave this truck in 3rd gear, it does pretty well. No surprise, fuel mileage is terrible, but we didn't buy any of this for fuel mileage. LOL.
