2019 R3 - 20 second Beep Alarm?

Post by BobRae99 »

Hi All,

My VP350 Garmin unit has just started emitting a beep tone every 20 seconds. The beep will sound even with the engine off and ignition on. Engine gem is normal, oil pressure is 45psi at idle. The only problem I can identify is a faulty trim switch which is causing the gauge to jump around rapidly - but the boat was operating normally last weekend. I looked at the EVC screen and it is stuck on Port/Starboard and pressing buttons doesn’t change that.

Any ideas? I hate to have to get the dealer out to the lake to haul it in for diagnostics.

Thanks,

Bob

It was the lanyard. I must have knocked it off when I rotated the captains chair. My question is, why does the boat start when the lanyard isn’t in?

The boat will start because if the person is overboard you want the remaining people on board to start engine and be able to rescue person overboard.

I get it. It’s not like my Sea Doo where the lanyard is both a key and a safety cut off for when the operator falls off. It would be nice if the glass cockpit could message the reason for the warning beep though.

A quick google - Volvo provides a listing of the beep codes and their meaning in the manual for their EVC Engines. Link to that manual is here: https://pubs.volvopenta.com/publications/7747144

Hope it helps.

Thanks but the first think I looked at was the EVC display mounted on the starboard side of the boat to the rear of the throttle level an all it reads is starboard/port and I couldn't change that. I assumed it was because I have a glass cockpit and the system operates from there? I'll have to look into that.
