Transom Trim Switch Constant Power

Post by breAKwater »

Good morning Cobalt Family!

Has anyone wired their transom trim switch to work with the battery switch off?

2015 R5 with the VP 380. I store the boat on the trailer 5 miles from my house, and want to be able to raise/lower the drive without having to crawl in the boat to turn the battery switch on/off every time I tow it.

Recently installed a factory transom trim switch kit, and figured giving the switch constant (fused) power would allow the switch to work with the battery switch off. I'm getting power to the trim pump relays and hear them clicking when I press the switch, but no voltage at the trim pump circuit breaker or downstream - apparently the trim pump is connected to switched power.

I'm thinking I would need to run another constant (fused) power wire to the trim pump power wire near the transom (presumably the larger gauge green/white or blue/white wire shown below), but I would be bypassing the trim pump circuit breaker and I'm hesitant to cut in to the factory wiring without confidence that it would work.

Figured I would enlist the collective wisdom of the forum before abandoning this project.
