Help with fender (docking) size

Post by 2ridgebacks »

Curious if anyone can help. I want to upgrade my docking fenders before spring. I have the fender pockets forward of the windshield, but I have no idea how large of a fender they will store. Assuming that all Cobalt fender storage compartments are the same diameter and depth, can anyone give me an idea how large in diameter and length might fit? My boat is 1.5 hrs away in the shed and I wasn't planning on going down there anytime soon. The boat is an A25 if it matters.
Thanks

I can get a six inch fender in them. Not sure if your pockets are bigger than then 220's.

Hey 2ridgebacks, the 6.5" size will work.

I purchased mine at West marine as I wanted the navy and black color. These sell for $59.99 each and are 6.5" diameter x 22" long.

Will slip right into that A25 storage space.

The dealer at the boat show says 8" will fit. Based on your 6.5", what do you think?

Imho, 8” will be too big. They’re too big for our 263.
I still think the 6.5” diameter will work very well

My 8" won't fit. I keep p them in the back fold up sun pad. . I keep the " way too small " one up front in the compartments..

Geeze what was Cobalt thinking with the tiny fender holes ???

Those compartment lids are not sealed either. So if you use a bow and a cockpit cover and it rains water gets in there and gets everything wet. I added weatherstrip to mine. It's in my upgrade thread.

IMO,
Not big enough for a decent size fender. I store fresh air in those cute little fender storage thingies..😀

Each and every docking area has something there that will ruin your day, and I hate HATE HATE a scratch....
Personally, I want to cover my beautiful gelcoat from those potential scars, so we use 3- 12” x 35” fenders that easily store in floor locker.
Those storage sleeve things might be useful after all, like maybe a cooler🤔

One of the fender storage locker liner tubes on our 220 is raggedly broken off at the flange. It's on the list of stuff to fix. We have been scratching our heads :?: how this damage could have occurred (boat is otherwise in great shape for its age). Best guess we came up with is that somebody filled it with ice and beverages, then hit bumpy water at speed.

Anyone have experience or suggestions around fixing one of these? The excellent service department at Lake Norman Marina found a Cobalt part number for the tube, but it's no longer available and I got no hits searching the intrawebs for the P/N.

Ours were both broke off our 97 when we go it. I think the plastic just gets brittle after time. I also think the newer 220 just have a netting to hold them.
