Sorry for the hi-jacks TR. We'll eventually get back around to your original purpose of the thread. Maybe!

Actually Nautie will keep us on track. She'll be like like a houndog... She wants that bottle of Pappy!

Ytmsn wrote: Fri Feb 02, 2018 7:47 am Tusc here is my story. The similarity scares me sometimes!

About 15 years ago I bought a 21 Four Wynns out of an auction. It was okay but nothing special. It was brown and I named it The Floater. My wife didnt like that to much. I didn't know squat about the boat but it turned out to be a good one that made plenty when I sold it.

Then my Dad calls me.from some resort he's at with his motor home up by Lake Michigan. He's found a 23' cuddy that someone traded in at the resort marina and its like brand new. It had been winterized and setting in a storage barn for 5 years when the prior owner traded and they want it gone. I made a sight-unseen offer and they accepted. I drove up the next weekend and picked it up, then took it to our lake place and did the same thing you did. I drug the kids around on tubes, ski's and kneeboards for hundreds of miles. We had that boat for 10 years. It was our water suburban and we thought we was in tall cotton. We didn't know what we didn't know.

Then I got "the bug" and started looking at Chapperal Sunestas 223's. Had made up my mind to buy one when Crownline 240 EX surfaced. I was just about to pull the trigger on one I found but something... something wasn't right. I hesitated for 2 or 3 days, and then my 240 Cobalt showed up on CL. I knew it was a project, I knew it would take the winter, but I knew it was my boat before I ever drove to Dallas the next morning to make an offer and bring it home. That was the day I joined this forum.

My biggest takeaway? I never realized my last two boats rode like dump trucks! With our cuddy I couldn't get up to plane in rough water because it would beat you to death, and I mean hard. With our 262 I can put the tabs down and cruise through whitcaps like butter!
Jeez it's such a difference.

Man after reading this I cannot wait to get my 262 in some choppy water. My last boat was a 97 Baja Islander 272 and it was a great boat but as a 27ft and a carb'd 454 it was slow as hell. I had it down on Table rock for 4th of july 2 summers ago and it handled the wake but would constantly go off plane due to the lack of power.

When I test drove my 262 I could tell it planed out a lot faster than my old baja and rode so much flatter even when the still trimmed almost all the way down. Needless to say I am counting down the days until its in the water in early april!

Glad you are settled on one model... My bottle of pappy has a real chance!

What are your must haves in any of these boats?!?
Just to be clear Nauti that was for finding a A28 for $70k :D

Probably the tower for sure. Just like the way they look. In all honesty I'm trying to get the wife around to something like this

http://www.boats.com/power-boats/2012-c ... 8-6586546/#

It was posted earlier in this thread but figured it was just too much. It may be doable if they will come down off that price.

I can relate to this... These boats are different. I had my 190 for 10 years and it was the small boat in my group of lake friends but everyone always said it rode better than their 22/24 ft boats. I feel like our 222 rides like a bigger boat than it is so I can't imagine how the 262 rides!

“The Floater”..🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
YT, that was beyond a perfect name! You’re killin’ me😂😂..

Funny how it all happens, and how we all make it to this place.
Honestly, I was never in the market for a new boat. Like you guys, I was just looking for a bigger boat, and nothing new because of our short season.
I can credit my dealer (Chaparral, Robalo, Master Craft, Bennington and Cobalt) for intentionally ruining me and turning me on to a Cobalt. That sum b!tch🤣..
Once my wife saw the R5 they had in stock? Damn it! How do you un-see that?

Here's another Canadian boat -- located close to Buffalo and Detroit.

2013 R5
  • Blue hull
  • Volvo 300 - 6.2L V8 with 176 hours
  • Freshwater
  • Matching prestige trailer
Aksing ~ $77K USD but seem hungry. I bet it could be had for around $68.5K.

Can confirm. The 190 rides like a much bigger boat but handles like a sports car. Some say it's the greatest boat ever crafted. ;)

I'm also with Nauti - I love those A28's. who cares if only fancy lads drive them?
