You live in Texas, arn't you required to have a big truck to live in the State?

Having a big truck is a recommendation, not a strict requirement. An SUV or Truck is the requirement.

In the Austin area we still allow registration for Prius, Focus, and Honda Elements. However, only in Travis county.

Bite the bullet, F250 / Chevy DirtyMax or the Dodge /w the Cummins. Hell depending on what you are towing a Single Rear Wheel F350 may make sense, they are not that much more expensive than a 250 and you get a ton more payload.

Because I'm on the road a lot, I don't want the rougher ride of the bigger trucks and they are also tough to park and maneuver in the big cities.

I of course having nothing to gauge this against. I haven't driven or owned a big truck ever in my life.

We rented a 2017 250 to tow the boat the 200 miles to the lake last year. We only had the Colorado at the time and $100 to rent a 3/4 ton seemed like a good investment. Unloaded the truck rode...well like a truck. Once it had some weight on the back it really wasn't bad, the F150 rides nicer but it should, it it designed to. Just keep like 1500lbs of sand in the back of the 250 at all times, you should be good lol.

The F250 was a big truck and yes not the most fun to drive in traffic, but it was a SuperCrew Long box. You can get a 250 in smaller configs with a 6.5ft box which compare in length to a 150. If you are doing a fifth wheel the 6.5 box may not work, but if its just pulling from the bumper it could be a good compromise.

Jeff and/or Katie, you make a great point. The smaller turbocharged gas motors are light years above the big naturally aspirated V8s of even a few years ago. Never did I think we'd be happy with a 6000+ lb load being tugged along by a V6, but I have been nothing but impressed. The turbo makes a huge difference.

Driller, I have an 2006 2500 Chevy crew cab with 6.5 bed that I pulled a 5th wheel with (best to have an auto slider hitch with 6.5 bed). It is a 6L gasser. Only problem I have size wise is length, like at a grocery store, which is probably the same for any half ton. One thing I noticed when I got my 2500 gas was that the same truck with the diesel rode much better because of the engine weight. Nauti is right that truck shopping is fun- and expensive! Good luck. It was my understanding that in TX only SUVs and trucks are allowed in HOV lanes, with the Prius, Focus etc forced to drive in the crowded stop and go traffic.

I don't think it is that they are not allowed to drive in the HOV, they like to "Stick it to the man" by not paying the toll fees. Time is not money to everyone, and they like to stand by their principles. Their choice.

Getting harder and harder to avoid toll roads in Texas, most all the new freeways are toll roads.

I haven't been in Texas in years. I didn't know they even had toll roads.
I thought just Illinois, Florida had them.a few others but I never drove in them

Nah, it's all the new freeways are either 100% toll roads or have toll lanes built in. They just built a new super freeway a few years back that runs about ~100 miles from north of Georgetown nearly all the way to San Antonio. 85 mph speed limit most of the way. 100% toll road.

Driller take a ride in a crew 3/4 LTZ short bed Chevy. It's a beautiful truck and rides really really good. Drive a short bed with leather and all the options and you'll see it's no harder to park or get around in than anything smaller while retaining all the comfort and luxury with an excellent ride.

A buddy just bought a new Ford 3/4 Powerstroke and I was equally impressed with how nice it is. It has a 360° backup camera. A really nice truck.

There was much more going on behind the scenes back with the mid sized diesels were cut.
EGR was the only NOx treatment, fuel was super expensive, and the country’s mood was more for hybrids.
Now that SCR is fairly reliable and Diesel engines can meet emissions without the destructive nature of Tier III 100% EGR, now is the right time to offer them.

Personally, I’m a Ford guy who also buys GM from time to time. I like the larger diesels, and will be buying another F-350 CC diesel when they release the 10 speed tranny in the fall of 2019.

Is anyone towing with a Nissan Titan XD Diesel?

5.0 Cummins with the Aisin 6 speed transmission. I'm looking at trading my current vehicle and wondering if this truck is the one. Price and options look decent with the Platinum Reserve model. Looks like their offering 7 years and 100,000 miles on the CPOs.

Looking for some input.
