Applying product for gel coat shine

Post by AsLan7 »

.
Curious if the majority (or minority) of the folks here “squirt” their products onto the hull as seen in this video...🤔

No, too messy. Throws the product everywhere. At least when I have tried. I put a few good sized drops on the applicator.

Not at all...I'm with Driller...product goes on the applicator first...smear it on as to avoid it spraying all over.

The one time I did it with a buffer I put it on the applicator as well. When the dealer I bought the boat from did the wet sand he put it on the hull.

I do it on the hull. Before I turn on the buffer I smear it around.

Same here. I do it pretty much just like the video.
If you smear it around and don't use as much as he did it did does fine

I have always been an applicator first guy. I think I may pick up one of those salad dressing squirt bottles so I can squeeze some southwest chipotle ranch sauce onto my hull and give it a whirl. 👌🏻

Yes I use the squirt bottle and it works fine. I know if your going to do a major complete boat buff job it's not a bad idea to get a huge sheet of plastic and just cover the top side of the boat and tape it down. That saves a ton of clean up time.

Yeah that's what my fiberglass guru buddy does. He tapes off the top of the boat and goes to town on sides. He's the same guy that is going to reinforce my gunals before he mounts my arch.
