My Unicorn
My Unicorn
So at some of y'alls suggestion this will be my tower thread. Again, big kudos to jrcramer for the meticulous packaging and delivery. He even cut out templets for me so I know where to drill! And a HUGE thank you to Liquid. Now that we have everything and I've actually met jrcramer I think it's okay to tell some more of the story.
As it happens the guy that used to own the boat has a shop where they do auto body, boats, machine work, mechanic work and a few other things. He got himself into a little jam, but not before he ended up oweing some money to jrcramer. He paid jr an amount and gave him the rest in collateral, and one of the things was this 262. So jr started parting the boat out to make his money back.
jr is VERY knowledgeable and was an absolute pleasure to work with. He told me yesterday he has built, owned and sold 9 successful businesses. Needless to say he is very sharp and knows what hes doing.
But in the beginning nobody knew, so I enlisted Liquids help because he lives in tbe same area. He was willing to go on a reconnaissance mission to make sure the deal was legitimate and not some sort of scam. Again Liquid, thankyouthankyou.! He did all this the day before he took his family to Florida! Thats a friend right there!
When he got to the place it was pretty sketchy, in a sketchy part of town, with junkyard dogs, several boats and cars setting around partly dismantled or under repair, and when he climbed in the boat an AK 47 was laying in the seat...
I never did get the scoop on this, and didn't see it until Liquid said it was there.
Like a trooper he kept his "Liquid Cool" and superman nerves of steel and surveyed the boat. He visited with jrcramer and then figured out he's the real deal and a really good guy, so he relaxed and took a ton of pictures for me.
Afterwards I got on the phone with jr and we made the deal for the arch and some other parts.
Oh yeah... And A7 NOW HAS SEAT CUSHION FILLERS!! It turns out they are in very good condition!
Jrcramer loaded up and made the drive to Missouri and we met to do the swap. I bought him a room at the hotel so after him and his wife got back from dinner we sat in the hotel lobby and traded a few stories. Then he told me he hadn't been to sleep yet. I'm like WTF? In two days? He's a trooper and apparently does this all the time. All he does is work, swap and trade. As I climbed on the elevator he was going to pick up some part from some other guy he was doing a deal with to haul back to New York. If it was me, I would have been toast. Dried out toast. A very impressive guy! We shook hands and parted ways.
I made it back home from Springfield with the Unicorn Arch and all my parts, and am now a very happy, yet anxious boater. I have an early flight and will be gone this weekend but hopefully will be back early enough next weekend so I can work on the boat. For the next few days I'll probably be a bit absent minded, or worse than I already am anyway. All I can think about is getting it on!
It's in another thread but here is the pic from my hotel room.
It turns out the bimini is blue, and that'll need to be changed. Hopefully I can get back early next weekend and do the install. Afterwards it'll need to go to the canvas shop to have the bimini mooring cover altered from tne bimini to the arch. AND I found out they can build a custom rear bimini all out of stainless with all stainless hardware. Kinda like this one I saw on a Regal, but with a tad more coverage.
The canvas shop is in Paul's Valley, about an hour and a half south of here. The boat will probably have to sit there for a week so I'm going to try to juggle everything so we can be on the water Easter weekend. If not then by the next weekend for sure.
Stay tuned...

They are manual. No power option offered for that.

Re: My Unicorn
YT, just what kind of hardware/securement is used to mount it?
Just simple holes into the gunwales, or do you have to somehow get inside of the gunwale?
It amazes me how boat manufacturers engineer this stuff.

I believe he has a fiberglass guy who will be reinforcing that area with a metal plate. There is access if you take off the engine firewall panel. No towing from it though. Aesthetics only.

Re: My Unicorn
My brother in law deserves a big thumbs up for coming with me as well. There was absolutely nothing in it for him whatsoever. His job was to make sure I didn't get kilt.
I told JR was good people.
Pumped you got your tower and A7 got his cushions. Worth it.
