Folding Trailer Tongue

Post by Mykidsdaddy »

Hi guys! I am ALMOST a Cobalt owner...11 more LONG days!!! :| My new to me boat is a 99 Cobalt 272.
:?: I am wondering if anyone has had their trailer converted to a folding tongue, is it sturdy enough to handle a 28 ft boat and approx what did it cost if you have had it done. Thanks and I look forward to owning this "Cadillac of Boats" I have other questions but I'm gonna wait until it's a done deal! This question, I can make some phone calls and make arrangements while I wait!

Thanks again, Glad to be aboard!

Welcome. I guess I would want to know the tongue weight of the boat plus the weight of the boat. I would double check with the manufacturer of the swing away for it's spec we would need to see pictures of the trailer to see if it even can be done. I thought someone on here did this already. If not I'm on another boat forum that had one documented really well I can get for you.

I see they are making folding units to a 9,000k capacity. Should be relatively easy for any fab shop to do.
If you do cut the tongue, let me suggest to add some draw bar length to it. A longer trailer keeps feet dry👍.

Hey, great to have you here mykidsdaddy. So glad you found us!

I have not converted any trailer tongues. Our first boat had a removable tongue which helped it store in the garage.

In any event, so glad you found us.

Welcome aboard mate!
