Depth Finder not working

Post by tgrace98 »

So my OEM depth finder is not working. I was told that it could be a fluid issue by YT but he wasn't sure. Either way it is the OEM depth finder and it still kicks on I just do not get a readout from the transponder. I can change the warning and what not just no depth readout. Any ideas what it could be?

I think if you unscrew the top from the base and then fill with rv/marine antifreeze you will hopefully solve the issue.

It's just a 1/8 turn. And the cap comes off. See if it has fluid in yt?. The lid says airmark on it.

When I did mine, I took all the fluid out and cleaned it out. Then refilled it with new and clean fluid.

Mine has a different issue. I get readings, but they're all over the place. It'll show 25'(which is accurate according to Plotter)then jump down to 3', then back up to 25', then back down to 3'. Any ideas what the issue is?

Ours would do that occasionally in a heavy “sea” weed area.
Is your bottom only sand ? The signal needs to ping off a good bottom surface to be accurate.

I'm wondering if I did something to the transducer lens on the bottom of the hull when I hit the sandbar. I need to look and see if it got scratched up or something.

Our Donzi had one that was NOT a shoot-thru the hull bottom one like our 260 series Cobalt. It was screwed on to the outside transom and was a small black plastic “brick” that hung off the back. It shot downward.

Which type do you have NR25?

I had a Monterey that had a thru hull mount. The hull was drilled and a flush mount transducer that was through the hull.

I'm thinking it didn't work before you hit the sandbar 🤣

It's a thru-hull on the starboard side,

Well I tried the antifreeze in the transducer and that didn’t work. So I think the transducer is bad. Talked to the dealer and they tried to source the part but cobalt no longer carries the model I have. So I think my options now are a new gauge and transducer or a chart plotter that has a transducer

Is there any trick to removing the cap on the transducer? I pulled the set screws and have tried twisting it CCW, but the thing won't budge. The model number is Airmar P79.
