Trailer Lock
Trailer Lock
I have owned many trailers where a standard padlock went through the locking lever and always worked great, but my new Load King trailer is the first I have owned with surge brakes which has no built in provisions for a lock. A quick google search shows 2 types of locks, one of which goes around the whole end and another one is a pin with a locking end. I am looking for a couple of features and wonder what people have found which works best:
* I like to use a combination lock so I don't have to remember a key to mess with the trailer.
* I like to be able to lock the trailer alone or to the truck (primarily at a busy boat ramp when I'm out for the day)
Interested to hear what people use which works well. Thanks!

Re: Trailer Lock
I just have a coupler lock in case I just leave the trailer in the driveway or at my brother's yard. I leave the key with it and in the truck for the just in case moment.

Re: Trailer Lock
So your latch has no hole for a pin or lock? That doesn't seem right. Can you post a pic?

Re: Trailer Lock
There has to be a hole for a pin. I would think so anyway. Use a pin lock and you're good.

Re: Trailer Lock
My trailer that was under the 222 only had a pin that locked the coupler from underneath and didn't go all of the way through.

Re: Trailer Lock
The tongue connection looks like this one and I saw the pin locks but was hoping for a better idea.

Re: Trailer Lock
Yeah. The pins are kind of small. All of mine have used pins. I've never had one big enough for a normal size padlock. My current one could probably take one with a small shank.

Re: Trailer Lock
Well that is certainly interesting. Never seen one like that before. No ideas here

Re: Trailer Lock
This style lock should work, course it wont let you lock the trailer to the truck.

Re: Trailer Lock
Would it be that you could run just a simple cable pad lock through reciever around the trailer ? Too long? Tacky? get made fun of??

Or just pad locks on the Saftey chains? Who cares how it looks.
I'm still bummed about seeing pins stolen for breakaway tounges!!

Re: Trailer Lock
I use a trailer coupler lock made by Reese that also functions as a safety pin. I got mine at Ace Hardware, but you can find them at lots of places.
