Lake water pressure washer
Lake water pressure washer
My marina is adding 10 new slips to an existing dock. I'm scheduled to get one, hopefully by Memorial weekend, and if not, maybe a week or two after.
They don't have water plumbed to the dock, and for several years I've kicked around the idea of putting something together that I can keep in my dock box. I want the ability to wash the boat and deck along with the dock and roof. No soaps or detergents though, just water. I'd be cleaning away spider and birb poop, dirt dobber and wasps, spider webs, and any nastiness on the dock, plus spraying down the inside and outside of the boat, and I could clean the carpets too.
The Corp wouldn't approve I'm sure, as they rarely approve anything, so I'd have to be discreet.
A quick Google search turned up this electric Karcher that you can pump right out of the lake with. I was wondering if anyone has used one of these or something similar? Or have you come up with your own system?
I would buy the suction hose accessory and the extended wand kit, so I'd have about $300 into it. 1800 psi should be plenty. The smaller models don't have the ability to pump out of the lake, but they will pump from a bucket.
Ideas? Pros? Cons? Comments?

Re: Lake water pressure washer
YT, I use my regular pressure washer and connect the washer to a sump pump that I clamp on to the dock just under the water. You are correct the Corp won't allow the sump pump but I just keep it in my dock locker. Works really well.

Re: Lake water pressure washer
I thought about that but I didn't really want to drag my gas-powered pressure washer down to the dock. That's why I was looking at using this electric model and storing it away in my dock box so I don't have to carry it back and forth. But I like the idea of clamping a pump just under the water line!

Re: Lake water pressure washer
This intrigues me....i have power and water hookups. An electric pressure washer stored in dock box would be a great option for cleaning off carpets and anything else that needs a good spray.

I'm not sure that this pressure washer will suction much of a head. If your water level is 3 - 4' below the dock it might have trouble pulling the lake water. It would need to be auto priming which I don't think it is. Pulling water at level is a whole different animal than suctioning water that is significantly lower. You could of course buy something like this to supply water. 1600 gph ought to be enough.

Another option would be to simply grab 5 gallons at a time and set it in a bucket on the dock. It looks like it will suction fine if the water is at the same level.

It says it'll pick it up from 15' but I'm not sure I'm buying into it. It also says to dunk the hose to get all the air out before connecting. I'm going to try it as it is and can always add a pump or a bucket. I'll let you know how it works out. .

If the Marina doesn't allow their customers to maintain their docks then they should do it
Re: Lake water pressure washer
Do that, I’ve been looking at options for the same thing. Washing the boat in the slip. Found some options for water supply but had not looked at a stand alone pressure washer.Ytmsn wrote: Sat May 19, 2018 11:48 pm It says it'll pick it up from 15' but I'm not sure I'm buying into it. I opened my bimini yesterday afternoon and a freakin bird nest fell out complete with eggs, and they busted on my carpet of course. Thankfully they were about the size of a fingernail so it must've been a wren or something similar.
There was nastiness EVerywhere. Sticks and dirt. Big wads of hair from something shedding. And eggs....
I never knew how nasty a bird nest can be until its scattered all over white vinyl.
A power washer sure would have been handy. Just imagine any of us under those circumstances. Probably pretty funny for anyone watching I'm sure

It does. On the Unicorn it has a built in boot. Some little bitty shitbird got up in there and built a new home. I call it that because of all the crap that fell out when I unzipped it and ran the spars out.
Nasty little bugger..
