Lake Minnetonka Member-2009 Cobalt 276

Post by jpclick »

I was looking to downsize from my 1995 Formula 280ss, twin 5.7 plus the 9'6" beam didn't make for pleasant water sports. Well, tubing was great but it cost $100 every 30min in fuel. ;-) It had a pretty massive wake and no tower, so learning to wakeboard was a challenge for the kids. I also wanted my next boat to be trailer-able...plus the boat was turning 20 that year.

I was actually looking to buy a new Cobalt CS23 but we decided we wanted a head on board, so that forced us up to the R5 or the 24SC. I did look at the Formula 240BR, but we liked the fit and finish of the Cobalt better. Obviously, the larger boat inflated the price tag. I think it was $60K for the CS23 and closer to $100K for the R5.

At this point, I had had my boat on the market over the winter with no bites, it was now spring, so I thought I would give it a couple of months to see if it would sell--it didn't. So, I finally called the dealer and started to look at trading it in.

Too my surprise, there was this beautiful 276 all cleaned up on the showroom floor next to the new boats. I thought it was new and a price of $60K, I was in shock. It had everything we wanted: head, tower, transom speakers, and the my suburban could tow it. It looked new and felt new plus it was only $60K (tongue in cheek)--still much better price that new. So, we pulled the trigger and I am now a happy Cobalt owner.

I'm a little late with my introduction, since this happened in July of 2015 but better late than never.

Welcome jp. That's a really nice boat. What engine do you have and where do you do most of your boating?

The engine is the Volvo Penta 8.1 (496ci and 375hp) and the boat is on Lake Minnetonka in MN.

I've got the 2011 version of the same engine on a 242. Couldn't be happier. Mine's slipped on Lake Travis in Austin, TX.

Welcome to the Cobalt chat forum family, jpclick. So glad you found us!

Your machine is looking sharp. As soon as those lake temperatures warm up you can start towing from that arch. 👍. We use our 260 series the same way; mainly for water sports on Lake Erie. We even have wet suits to help with those early summer temps. :D

Keep those pics coming. A Formula pic would also be cool. They are great machines as well.

And again, welcome aboard mate!

Welcome from California!! That's a nice combination of features as I'm sure it will seat better than the facing side seat in the Formula. And Formula is another top tier maker of boats imho!

Let us know your comparison from your last until now. Oh I loce the " off red color"

Welcome JP from another Texan. Glad to see you found your Blue Angel 😇. Although mine is a 212 it sure makes a pretty looking boat color scheme.

Jp, do you dock it there? I think I’ve seen a similar boat tied up during our frequent Minnetonka trips...
