Hi all!
I'm a newbie on the Forum. I have a 2004 240, but can't put in photos just yet. I know, sacrilege! I'm wondering where to find a shop manual for my boat. I have the Owner's Manual, but I like to do my own wrenching when I can and I like to start with a Manual. Also, is there a favorite place to buy parts? OEM or otherwise? I look forward to being a productive member and am so glad to have found you guys!
What about Shop Manuals and Parts?

Hey Scottambler, welcome to the Cobalt chat forum. So glad you found us!
When you say shop manual, do you mean engine manual?
Here is a link to Cobalt Owner’s manuals.

What make & size engine do you have?
There are links available for engine manuals too.
All the various pumps, outdrive, gauges etc. have separate owner’s manuals. They come with the boat when you buy new. Otherwise you can google these brands separately.
Again, welcome aboard mate.

I am trying to work through the steering system (I'm clocked 90 degrees out) and trim sending unit(Trim is working, but the gauge jumps all over the place) Don't know where to find the part numbers etc. Volvo 5.7L 6xi 320 HP

Roger that. For me, the best “shop manual” is YouTube.scottambler wrote: Tue Jun 05, 2018 4:45 pm I am trying to work through the steering system (I'm clocked 90 degrees out) and trim sending unit(Trim is working, but the gauge jumps all over the place) Don't know where to find the part numbers etc. Volvo 5.7L 6xi 320 HP

I'm sure someone with more experience will chime in but.
I would think you just remove the steering wheel, rotate it to straight and put it back on.

Re: What about Shop Manuals and Parts?
Hey Scott. Anything been changed on your boat recently??
cables? Drives been off??
Things change and 90 deg isn't anything to worry about.
Bfun is correct
Make sure there is nothing loose and backing out in the tapered shaft nut under your wheel..then just Unbolt the small Allen screws and move it over one hole.
No perfect steering wheel location like a car. Sorry ( that's why new self center hub wheels are the new thing)
Your sender is most likely your gauge issue. They come as a unit with harness and are feed through the gimble area so do not clip and reconnect wiring as one wrong connection will change the value going to the gauge.
Get the serial number off your drive and have your local authorized Volvo penta dealer order you the correct sender
Manuals.. Volvo penta for your Year. And online catalogs as well..
Volvo loces serial numbers on engine and drives so have them stored . The Swedish are very precise

Re: What about Shop Manuals and Parts?
Shop manuals it seems can be sourced online. I have paper ones that I bought from a VP dealer. Parts usually get ordered online from marinepartsexpress.com. I tried to give a local shop my business but they wouldn't even respond when I contacted them with a parts list. Oh well.
