The joys of trailering.
It slowed me down getting to the river but we still got in about 5 hours. The first one cost me about 30 minutes, then about 40 miles later the second one cost me about an hour. Next week I will be tire shopping.

Oh boy. That blows..
From my neighbor/tire dealer:
Don’t judge your ST tires by tread wear. If your tires are older than 5 years, change them because they will break your heart..
Those look like Good Year Marathon..made in China.
I agree with B.B., USA built Good Year Endurance are the best replacement tire.

Sorry to hear that BR.
Nice job still getting her to the lake.
As far as tires blowing out, there’s those who have and those who will. Welcome to the club.

Re: The joys of trailering.
We see it all the time. I live near the I-90 and we run the he 45 mile trip into Buffalo at least twice a week.
Lots of brand new RV units built in Indiana being delivered to the north east states constantly driving by. Seems like there is an RV trailer on the side of the road having tire issues on every trip into Buffalo in the summer.
Trailer manufacturers are notorious for speccing the cheapest tire, and at the absolute brink of their load capacity in order to keep costs down. They are just setting the customer up for damage.
Just what am I missing when it comes to ST tires? Yeah, I know they are designed to side roll a bit when a trailer is turning, but 99.999% of their motion is straight ahead. One would think the smart replacement may be an LT tire.

Re: The joys of trailering.
For myself, I would use an LT tire that has the proper load rating. I was told years ago that ST tires have a maximum speed rating of 65mph and so I have steered away from them on my trailers.
Tusc, that really surprises me given the newness of the tires! I replace my trailer tires every 5 years no matter what they look like. Glad no one was hurt and no major damage occurred.

I’m sure boatrover is bummed.
Another reminder for me.. after 5 years pass, my tires will still look brand new, and in the trash they will go..

Re: The joys of trailering.
Yes it was a wake up call. I just started trailering again this year when I bought my Cobalt. The past 15 years my boat was either in a slip or up on a rack, didn’t even own a trailer. I have been working on little things and completely overlooked the age of the tires. After I got home I looked at the date stamp and they are original tires from 06, they looked great since PO stored the trailer inside. I followed BBP’s lead and ordered 4 new Goodyear Endurance tires today. The good news is now I know my jack from my Yukon will lift the trailer off the ground.Tuscany wrote: Mon Jun 11, 2018 5:51 pm I’m sure boatrover is bummed.

Re: The joys of trailering.
Picked up a nail on the way to storage. Too close to side wall to fix. Found out boatmate trailer provides a five year road hazard warranty with their trailers basically got a goodyear endurance tire for the cost of disposal and new road hazard warranty

Re: The joys of trailering.
LT’s on mine 275/45/20 Goodyear’s. I think they are original to the trailer and still look good. They typically don’t roll more than half mile or so to launch, but performed great ont the 13 hour round trip to Lake Erie and back last summer. I asked EZ Loader about LT’s and was told it was likely due to the availability of ST in that size and there weren’t concerns due to the construction of LT tires.
