1988 202!

Post by 88cobalt202 »

Well, I've finally purchased a boat. Got a great "family" deal late last season on a 1988 Cobalt 202. Only thing I had to do was put the proper thermostat in it. Doesn't really leak any, has ran well so far...couldn't be more pleased. Took some friends and kids out on her this past weekend, first time out this year, and had a blast. As this is my first boat, I am new to everything dealing with ownership. Does anyone have any advice on upkeep, small upgrades for comfort/convenience, etc? I basically stole this boat for the price so I have plenty of room to make some adjustments here and there and still be ahead. Thanks in advance to any suggestions.

Hey welcome to the CobaltChat forum 88cobalt202. So glad you found us!

Bluetooth is a must upgrade. Having tunes readily available sets the tone on your boat. Wouldn’t be without them.

Do you have any pics?? What size engine?

Once again, welcome aboard mate!

Hi 88 and Welcome from Oklahoma! Small upgrades? SS cupholders of course. Then all the usual stuff.. LEDs, stereo, amps and speakers, and on and on.

Best advice I can give is cruise the threads here, read and absorb. Dont be afraid to ask questions and welcome to the Cobalt family!

And pictures of your boat or it never happened!

Thanks for the replies everyone! Hopefully I attached a pic of the boat. Just in the driveway when i was getting her prepped. The bluetooth comment, i agree 100%! Just using an FM transmitter plugged into my phone for the time being. I did replace the speakers with Rockford. Believe the old speakers were the factory ones. Don't believe I mentioned my state, but since others have, I'm in Ohio. Not far from Caeser creek so that's where we will go most of the time. Oh, and to answer the question on the engine, it's the 5.7 260hp mercruiser and shes got a little under 1000 hours on it.

Another Welcome from Texas 88.

I have this bluetooth device installed on my boat plugged into the A/V input. Works great and the price is reasonable.

P.S. that's a manly engine cover on your boat.
