I have a 220 with a 5.7 gi. Believe its rates at 300. With 3 adults and 3 kids I can pull my son on his wake board with no problems. He's 6'3" and around 225. I can also hit 53 mph with the same onboard. 2 adults and a full tank of gas on flat water I've gotten 55 mph out of it. Those speeds are all GPS. Our favorite spot to go is a 20 minute ride. Normally cruise there at about 35mph and about 3500 on the tach.

Re: Trading boats
Bfun exactly. Ive had both 5.7 gi and gxi. Not much different. You really would be fine with either one. Yes that you can find all day long under 30.

I’m a new boat owner, so take my perspective for what it’s worth = not much. Due to that, I don’t have much to say on models or motors.
What I can say is that you’ll be pleased with patience. I knew I wanted a Cobalt and started looking last September...didn’t stumble across this place until this season. I had a 226 5.7 picked out, deposit down but it fell through. Then another, a few years older but couldn’t come to terms on price. This forum (BBP + others) pointed me towards the one I have and man am I glad. I never thought I needed 496 Mag power (425 hp) but I’ll probably never be able to have anything less now. I’ve only pulled the kids on the tube so far but it’s great out of the hole and rides so much smoother than other boats around the lake that I’ve rode on with big boat wakes on this lake. I’m a fan of the 226! Especially with the bigger motor that you’re looking for. Here is one of my first top speed tests - https://vimeo.com/272208039
I’ll keep an eye out on BT and CL around my area for you.

Re: Trading boats
We are on a very large lake That is only 19 feet deep. It can get very ugly very quick. My 200 handled very good and does my 220. I know bfun got stuck in some real crap last year so he will come in.tsouthard91 wrote: Sat Jun 16, 2018 8:58 am Thanks guys!

Not much for the colors on either. But LOVE this model.
My in-laws are aggies, so I definitely couldn't do the maroon one

This is from last year. Headed out for dinner and the wind picked up for our return trip. I have a video of the boat going through 2-4 foot waves. I'll see if I can post it here some how.tsouthard91 wrote: Sat Jun 16, 2018 8:58 am Bfun - appreciate the insight. How do you like the ride quality of the 220?

Re: Trading boats
Thanks for posting!
Do you find it runs better on top of the water at 28-30 or is smoother at that speed?

Re: Trading boats
28-30 is what I'm comfortable with. I also make sure to hit the waves head on to no less than 45 degrees. I think I could probably run a bit faster and still have it run smoothish. But really any faster and I worry about beating the boat up. BTW, that video is shot with me holding my phone in one hand.tsouthard91 wrote: Sat Jun 16, 2018 3:55 pmThanks for posting!

Re: Trading boats
I cruise a bit faster normally. About 35-40. The 8.1 matches the rpms 1 to 1 at first speeds.
Normally a good solid ride. Today was rough no issues.
