Looking at Zacks trailer, it looks like there is adequate room inside the notch, but side to side drift when loading is got him.. and the potential of side to side drift increases when the trailer is backed in deep, or on a windy day..or with a current at the ramp, or one of a hundred different things happening.

Looks like the props will hit if the transom isn’t in absolute perfect alignment position when loading.
The designer was out to lunch, or smokin’ dope, and never considered real world, side to side movement. I’m surprised the shop guys building the trailer design didn’t catch the potential problem.

Two sets of STIFF Load guides may help reduce the problem from happening, unless there is a wind hitting your boat when loading. .
Adding two sets of stiff load guides, one set rear, one set mid would be the first thing I would do short term. I would say goodbye to that trailer long term because it will happen again on a windy day.

So I got my boat back and if runs great. Heres how it went down
1. Wednesday drive to and from Lincoln NE to Neodesha KS to pick up new out drive
2. Drop new drive off at Valley Marine in Valley NE
3. Pick boat up Thursday afternoon from Valley Marine
4. On the water for fathers day weekend.

I want to give a shoutout to both Cobalt Boats and my Dealer Valley Marine for making this happen

That's great. Are they going to do anything to your trailer.

Heritage said I I bring them the trailer they would modify it, however they are in southern Illinois and I’m in Nebraska so that’s out. I plan on modifying it myself and will post picks once I have it complete. Heritage did say they would still honor the warranty if I modify it myself.

As for wo had to pay for the incident It was an insurance claim, my first one in 5 years of boat ownership.

I know a dealer in Omaha that travels that way all the time. For a small fee I'm sure he might help you if you wanted to go that route?
I am surprised that they made you go through your insurance when it's kind of a design flaw but I also see their side. Ir will be interesting to see how many others do that

I'm not usually one to place blame on others, but that is a really crappy trailer design for a forward drive boat. By saying they would modify it, isn't Heritage indirectly admitting it wasn't designed correctly in the first place? If that is the case I would think they could participate in the cost of the lower unit repairs.

That's an absurd design. I'm glad it worked out for you though.

I wonder how Eagle would have handled it ;)

I'm thinking that FD needs an elevator of some kind but what do I know.

I don't know if it's like every other boat where you leave the front of the fender a bit above the water. To float it on its going to have to be under water. Get cheaters no matter what. Did I just say that. TUSCANY. please

So summer is coming quickly and it’s got me thinking about boating. After this trailer incident last year we made sure we were careful loading and unloading every time however I am going to modify the trailer like I had mentioned I am thinking of installing a swing away Drive protector similar to the Myco trailers And I’m curious what peoples thoughts are on if this and if it would protect the drive. In doing this I would eliminate all of the excess metal next to the drive that supports the skid bars I would make sure to install casters on the swing away Drive protector that would all be lower than the lowest part of the drive

Does anyone have any experience with something like this

Zack can you draw a picture of what your thinking of doing. I know Matt was dying things to his bosses surf trailer and can help. Slide is a great fabricator so hopefully they can come in. I'm lost at what your trying to do. Maybe post a picture of the myco trailer too.
Ok I now see you started a new thread. I'll catch up in that one. Thanks
