Potable water tank valve mystery

Post by AsLan7 »

.
The potable water tank located on the port side of our 263 engine compartment holds water for the sink and transom shower.

I need to replace the valve in the pictures below. It looks like a combination shutoff and drain valve.

It’s a mystery why this valve is worn out & the plastic nut is deteriorated off the threads. Any thoughts? It’s prior owner used the boat on Lake Mead in Vegas.

....also, any idea on where to purchase one?

I'm guessing the PO stowed something down in there and it bounced around and caused that damage while underway.
Did you check with jrcramer?

Hi Aslan, the valve isn't missing a nut - it's a dual connection style. It can be used with a threaded nut and o-ring/washer or as a nipple style with clamp (wow, that sounds wrong). The fittings on the pump are similar. I tried finding copies when I t'd in the toilet connection to the pump and couldn't find a duplicate anywhere, so I just made some adapters from multiple parts at Lowes.

Hey thanks SRR. That’s good to know.
FWIW , I purchased both the valve and tank off JRCramer1’s Cobalt 263 parts Boat. I couldn’t find either of those parts anywhere on the new or used market. I’ll replace the valve and keep the tank as a spare if ever needed. My valve just appears to be worn out and it bothers me.

As you can see from the first pic, that port side engine compartment needs a cleaning. I do plan on taking the old tank out....cleaning the mess...and reinstalling. Just had to procure that valve somehow. But now I got it. Thanks JRCramer1!
