Re: Trading boats
Well, this is my idea of big waves...
Seriously, I've been in 3 or 4 foot waves and mild swells, but I have zero experience with anything bigger. So yeah, one day I'll get to go for a ride on your boat. And I imagine it'll go something like this.

Re: Trading boats
I haven't checked the weight of the 232 and the year of it. But it's longer and heavier. The only time we get wet in ours is if I'm pulling tubes and I'm turning into waves trying to give them a good ride. I normally wouldn't drive like that if I was cruising to a spot. The 222 has a much higher freeboard then the 220.tsouthard91 wrote: Thu Jul 05, 2018 6:54 am Yea, got lucky I guess.
Question: the ride in the 220 is drastically different than my last '99 232. I find myself and passengers catching spray when riding. We hardly ever got wet in our 232.
Is their a certain way I need to have the trim is fairly rough water? The 232 seemed to ride heavy on the rear end of the boat, where the 220 cuts through more "linearly" if thats even a word.
Curious about everyone else's experience.
If you slow down and trim up you won't get wet. But again I don't have the issue of getting wet. What angle are you hitting waves at?
Tuscany I would have loced to see that. Was your wife happy and laughing?
I haven't had water come over like that since my crownline 202.
To get a wave to do that in your boat I don't think I would have been out that day.

Haha, I guess our meet up has fizzled out, but at some point, I have to get you southern and mid-west pond boats over here to experience some real nautical conditions, eastern Lake Erie style. .Ytmsn wrote: Thu Jul 05, 2018 8:47 am Well, this is my idea of big waves...

Re: Trading boats
Our '99 232 was 3880lbs dry. So I believe it was lighter than the current 220 we own.Big Block Power wrote: Thu Jul 05, 2018 8:57 amI haven't checked the weight of the 232 and the year of it. Angle wise, the goal is 45 degrees, but cant always achieve that on rough days dodging stupid drivers haha.
The 220 definitely sits lower than our last one, but the ride is actually a little smoother. Or it feels that way.

Re: Trading boats
Well sounds like your doing what you should be doing. Is it just spray off the wake and stuff. We get some rough crap and ive been between some 35 ft boats on each side of me and said oh crap but stayed dry. Bfun is out in a bunch of crap to as we boat the same area but he's on the bigger lake more than I. He'll chime in. He's off for the summer again. There hasn't been a day where i said I shouldn't be out in this. Where in other boats I have. Maybe you're boating conditions are much diff than ours? Even in Cumberland I wouldn't have worried.tsouthard91 wrote: Thu Jul 05, 2018 9:08 amOur '99 232 was 3880lbs dry. Re: Trading boats
Yes, its always been spray off the wake.
Haven't run into a scenario where I have said "we shouldn't be out in this", but have experienced the 40ft+ boats and their wakes. Definitely has a pucker factor at times.

Re: Trading boats
Oh yes we get some spray from the wake. I think that's just the freeboard and just plain ole wind trying to keep you cool. I thought you were getting it over the bow and the windscreen. And stuff like that. Lol I love that word. It's been 90 out so we'll take the water spray anytime.tsouthard91 wrote: Thu Jul 05, 2018 9:25 am Yes, its always been spray off the wake.

Re: Trading boats
The spray off wake has a lot to do with wind direction. If you can run with or directly into the wind you can tackle some big waves and stay dry. At times I'll run a zeg zag pattern were I'll run 90 degrees into the waves and wind. Then turn and run 45 degrees with the waves with the wind at my back. Not sure if that makes since.
As far as trim I keep my bow neutral to slightly raised.
With the right tracking, wind and trim your boat should keep you dry through at least 4 foot waves.

Thanks Bfun!
Sounds like I just need to get used to the different ride pattern of the new boat.

Haha, after the shock of cold water drenching us wore off, we all got a pretty healthy laugh out of it.Big Block Power wrote: Thu Jul 05, 2018 8:57 amI haven't checked the weight of the 232 and the year of it. The ironic part is that my daughter just got engaged that weekend, and we had her fiancé and his mother with us. She asked my wife "how should I dress" will we get wet? My wife replied "we never get wet".
