I thought those things as death traps the second I laid eyes on one. I told my wife there's no way we would ride one of those.
Prayers for the victims and families affected by this tragedy. I can't begin to imagine the horror and helpless feeling some of those parents and grandparents.

It’s so sad to hear about the 11 people passing and still 5 missing. 😢. I pass them on the water all the time and wave at the families on the boats. I have been on a duck when I was a kid and as a 10 year old I thought it was one of the coolest things ever. Now seeing this no way would I ever let anyone I know ride one of those things. I know the conditions were something you don’t normally see. But still knowing 11 people have died on one. No way.

My wife and kids were on 3 or 4 years ago. They had a blast. Issue is not with the ducks, it is that they got caught in a storm with strong winds. I would feel very comfortable with my kids out on one. Tragedies happen....remember the costa Concordia disaster? These things just need to be operated safely and trajically they got caught in a storm.

I do wonder if every child had a life jacket on....even if state law only requires it under age of 7

Theyve reported there were life vests on board. Once that engine area started to be mostly under water i think they should of told everyone get on life jackets and out the windows. Easier said in hindsight. Not sure how easily those windows get removed.

TR it looks like the windows go down in the sides. I would imagine there was so much panic the driver never ordered life jackets on, if they even had them, or they were accessible. I suspect they were packed away someplace because 30 or 40 life jackets would take up a lot of room, unless they had floating seats like airlines used to have.
If they didn't have them? Well, regardless of whether they did or didn't, I see no way the duck ride could ever recover.
