Changing docking light bulbs

Post by Eric55AMG »

Has anyone changed their docking light bulbs yet?
I have the old style ss lights with the halogen bulbs.
I have one burned out, so I ordered two new LED replacements.

Hoping I can access through inside speakers or something and don't have to pull the whole assembly out of the boat from the outside.

I have a windless, so no real access from the locker

No idea and no help unfortunately other than I would think you would have to access it from the outside.

Ours could be different, but in our 222 there is no way you could change the bulbs via the anchor locker, even w/o a windless. From the inside of the locker you just see the outside of two tubes the lights sit back in but no way to access the bulbs. Bow speakers would be even worse for access really.

I know someone on here has changed theirs out, I think from the outside of the boat is the only way to do it.

On my 2004 250 you have to change the bulbs from the outside. You have to remove the 4 screws holding the stainless bezel on and then you remove the bulb. I also recall having to unhook a little spring so that the bulb could be removed. It was easy in the driveway but would be trickier in the water.

Replaced a bulb only on our 343 with the SS bezel & tube. Talked to the manufacturer and determined it's simply a standard size (I forget the size) halogen automotive headlight bulb squeezed in to the rubber fitting attached to the end of the SS tube. Removed the entire assembly from the outside, removed the rubber bulb housing held on by a hose clamp and soaked it in hot water for about 10 minutes. The rubber becomes more pliable and I was able to squeeze the old bulb out. Once out, I cleaned the hole for the wires and soaked in hot water again. Smeared a little dish soap on the inside then worked the new bulb into place, re-siliconed around the wires ....Viola!! full replacement for about $15

Just a basic waterproof silicone. I think it was the marine silicone from BoatLife.

Hello Eric,

I have the same and one rubber bulb holder is brocken.
I forgot to measure the Outside tube diameter, where you put the rubber bulb on! Do you have the possibility to measure it ?

Thanks in advance

It'll probably be a few weeks before I can get to the docking lights, but I'll try to remember to measure when I do.

That's are the lights I'm going to try ...
Have one flood, and one spot ... Will see if I like that combination, or swap to bother flood or both spot.
