iPhone with Rockford-Fosgate head unit?

My new-to-me 2013 A5 has the Rockford-Fosgate stereo with the remote controls on the transom and helm. In the glove box, next to the control unit, is a USB port and an "iPod connector" as well as an Aux In.

This is the unit:

If I plug my iPhone cable into the USB port, the head unit sees that something is there but music from the phone won't play and the phone does not see it as an output.

I cannot find a model # on this system, nor do I have user manuals.

I would like to play music from my phone over the thumping' stereo, yo.

Anyone have any guidance on this?

Picking boat up tomorrow. After I have had a chance to play "hook up" my IPhone, I'll let ya know. Is it only thru the USB port or both USB and Aux port that it won't recognize?

That's all I've been able to try. I just discovered and ordered a Lightning-to-mini-DIN cable to plug into the "iPod connector" so we'll see if that works.

I hooked this up to my original 2011 stereo which did not have Bluetooth. It has worked flawlessly this summer.

OK, so the Lightning-to-min-DIN connector I got does not work. It's 8-pin DIN and the Rockford-Fosgate connector is 9-pin DIN. Yay.

However, I discovered that the correct RF cable is actually the "Rockford Fosgate IPODEC2" cable. That is NLA but some places appear to still have it. I ordered one from:

They call it 8-pin but the image shows it correctly as 9-pin.

I will report back next week when it arrives.

OK, the eTrailer cable works a lot better, but it's really intermittent. I am thinking that I have a wiring problem on the actual boat. We will see.

Update: this worked most of the day yesterday on New Melones on my kid's iPhone 6. So maybe there's hope after all.

I gotta check and see if there's a firmware update or anything for the head unit.

Man, I still have to test mine mdadgar. We've been so enamored with the Blue Tooth that the cable connection keeps eluding us.

Which BT adapter do you have? That's looking like a better and better solution.

The PMX-5 has it built in. We connect our iPhone 7 thru X with it and it works like a champ.

You could by an Mpow adapter.

I'm using this adapter on my 2011. So far no problems reconnects auto everytime. I've been very happy with it. Connected the power to the head unit power and the RCA to the video input. Quick and easy. Just use the adhesive to tie it down. My installer didn't on the first one and the towing vibration knocked it out. Second one is flawless through 1 season.
