New Cobalt in Texas Hill Country

Post by Mikes220 »

I have had a boat most of my life. A couple of Chapparals and most recently a Rinker Captiva. The Rinker was small but dependable but fit my wife and I just fine. Then a few months ago my daughter, her husband and our 2 year old grand daughter moved back to Texas from Atlanta. Suddenly the Rinker was much too small. I was looking for a Chapparal Sunesta and went to Lake Travis to look at one. In another marina, near by, was a 2208 Cobalt 232. I was not interested in a Cobalt, because I thought a person would have to be crazy to pay that much money for a boat. After all how much better could a Cobalt be? But seeing as I was already there I decided to take a test ride. One ride and I was hooked. The 232 was a bigger boat than I wanted to trailer but when I got home I googled “ Cobalts in Texas.” One link sent me to this chat group where I found a 2007 Cobalt 222 for sale in the Dallas area. After a lot of texts, emails and calls I made a deal. A couple of weekends ago I made the 325 mile trip to Dallas and loaded up the boat. My first stop was at a Goodyear store for new tires and then hauled my fist Cobalt home. I have spent many good hours detailing the boat, repacking bearings, finding storage compartments for bumpers, ropes etc. Sunday, if it doesn’t rain we are taking her to Medina Lake for the maiden voyage. Will get some pictures on the water.
I have enjoyed reading the posts in this group. I have gotten lots of good information and hope to share some of our adventures.

Welcome from San Antonio. Great looking boat. Spend most summer Sundays out on Medina. Been trying to get one more trip out, but weather has not cooperated. Lake is up 18 ft from the end of August. Where do you normally launch at? Used to use Joe's, but ramp was out of the water this year so Red's it was. Hope it warms/clears up so you can take her out.

Welcome from Oklahoma! Glad you found us and welcome to the Cobalt Club. Now that you own one you're hooked. I love it when a lifetime boater with tons of experience buys a Cobalt and can easily see the difference from everything else out there.

Welcome from Illinois, love the walk through transom on those. What power plant does it have? Looks like a Volvo outdrive.
