R5 Lighting for Dash Switches

Post by mmfix »

Have a 2016 R5 found out the lights behind the switches are bad, this thin LED rope light is glued just above the switch's has anyone had this problem or where to find parts? Looks like they were wired backwards from the factory and are not under warranty any more. The manufacture of the light is Tech Lite with a part of IFW 3318-1p, I am not able to find much on this or replacements. Dealer wants around $600 to fix.

We do a lot of evening boating and it is tough to see the switchers in the dark.

Thanks,
Happy Boating
Mark

Hi welcome from Wisconsin. Please introduce yourself to the group in the new member section and please post pictures or it didn't Happen.
Do you have pictures of the light strip. Can you take it out to get repaired. If it is leds you can't hook them up backwards or they wouldn't work from day 1. Call the factory see if they will help you out. Are you the first owner. How far out of warranty is it? If you bring it to a radio TV stereo repair shop they can replace the leds no problem.

Hey mark. Welcome to the Cobaltchat forum. So glad you found us!

Not sure how accessible those LED’s are but pics would help. Almost sounds like the polarity is reversed like you mentioned. Can you unplug, rotate 180 degrees and replug? $600 sounds steep to me.

Hopefully you can get some other advice from a similar owner here on the forum.

Welcome aboard mate.

If your LEDs where simply wired backwards you should be able to switch the polarity by moving the wires. Wiring LEDs backwards should not harm them, they just won't work.

The back lighting in your panel is electroluminescent wire light not LED's.
Try this site techliteinverters.com
They have the electroluminescent wire light with the inverter (IFW 3318-1) to repair your panel.

Good Luck,
WW

Actually, it looks like the part number is IFW 3318-1R. I think you miss took the R for p. And the 1R is the red version. I looked at my R3 and it has two, one for each side.
