I will preface this by saying we are a Ford family, I think the 2015+ F150 is one of the best looking trucks out there. With that said...

Have you guys seen the new 2020 GM/Chevy HD 2500 redesign? If anyone was waiting for the new truck I would rush out and buy the old design ASAP. I thought the 1500 series was about as ugly as GM could get but it appears the designers locked themselves in a room and said "you don't think we can design a truck uglier than the 2019? Hold our beer..."

Let me just say.....I’m partial to GM for obvious reasons.. It’s whats keeps the lights on for me.

But as drastic changes can seem extreme on any model, it appears this may take some time to become the norm.

I personally see every feature of all truck models being somewhat shared amongst the brands. It’s the MFG way of attracting buyers on the fence and not brand loyal.

But don’t judge any book by its cover as GM platform looks to out tow everything!

There just not going to look good doing it.🤣

Here the 2019 Ford.. ehhhhh?? I’m not sure I like any of them right now.

And this one they had to put a bag over the face. ( just a little Ford jab.lol)

...WOW.. Someone actually said “let’s build it”? W...t...eff....
I don’t know what to say except Mary Barra HAD to call down to the HD re-design team and said “ boys, BUTCHER one”...

I’ve always been a Ford Powerstroke guy. I bought this GMC in a weak moment, doing business with a dealer who does business with us.. and at 1,500 under invoice and a 2k rebate, I bit. It’s been fine, but just nothing I would spend time waxing out of pride.. The inside is as luxurious as a old amish buggy. The quality of components? I had to replace the entire sound system and under dash electronic processor units with a new system from an aftermarket dealer because GM’s infotainment processor came out of a Commodore 64 reject pile. Dealer said “they’re all slow” I’m sure they are...Touch the screen button to restart a song on my phone, and presto, 30 minutes later, it restarts...
Ram? No chance of a chance, although the new Limited interior in the half ton may be the best of all 1500 trucks.

I guess they all have their issues.

Ford is updating the 2020 SD with a new 10 speed, and updated interior, exterior head and tail lighting and grille designs. Hopefully, they’ve un-uglied the 17’ re-design into something as attractive as the F-150 look. The day the order banks open, I’ll be placing an order... unless it’s as hideous as that thing GM “designed”

Matt, consider the bright side... If a bird craps on the hood of a Ram.. oh, forget it.😙😂
Honestly, Ram is raising the interior bar very high. I guess never say never.
In all fairness to the “other” GM design room, the new GMC has the opportunity to redeem.
I certainly hope they don't take their cues from The Family Truckster.

The new GM trucks are horrible, but I thought that about the 2017 F250 facelift and it's grown on me. I've owned several trucks/brands and Ford is by far the best overall value from a build quality/capability/and comfort perspective IMO.

As for Dodge, I hear good things about the newer models, but I had a '97 Ram that I put 4 transmissions in within 60k miles, so I'll never personally consider one again. The styling and interior were fantastic, which is nice while sitting on the side of the road waiting for a tow.

Unfortunately from 2004-2012 Ford made the absolute WORST engine lineup known to automotive history, so there's almost a decade of models I wouldn't touch if you paid me. Any of the modular gas engines (4.3, 5.4, v10), and the 6.0/6.4 diesels are as reliable as storing water in a paper bag. The 6.7 is looking to be a great engine, so I'm sticking with my 7.3 a few more years until a nice Platnum 6.7 dually is in my price range. We love my Wife's 2015 Expedition with the 3.5 Ecoboost. Amazing interior and a true truck with an integrated trailer controller and the 3.5 has plenty of towing power.

Until then, this is my towing/hunting rig and I love it:

Actually, the 6.4L Powerstroke was magical, and IMO and many others.., still is the best power making small diesel engine ever made, and I'll explain. I used to be heavy into diesel performance..(long winded)

When Navistar/Ford introduced the 2008 6.4L diesel, the "only" technology emissions equipment available to pass Federal Tier III emission standards were from exclusive use of Exhaust Gas Recirculation, or EGR. What that is in a nutshell was to introduce exhaust back into the intake which reduced the harmful NOx output by cutting out available oxygen to burn. VERY archaic, but that is what they had. The engine was breathing its own feces, destroying oil and rings, eating fuel below 10 MPG, taking out injectors while slowly killing itself. It's the same reason Caterpillar, the most noteworthy semi engine of our time left class 8 trucks in 2010 after struggling with EGR . The engines simply would choke and die from within, usually within 100,000 miles. That engine used to be worth 1.5 million miles before a major overhaul.

Take the 6.4L, delete the EGR and DPF and then upload a custom aftermarket tune. Usually done with a $2,500 investment and available from many tune companies like Spartan, KEM, PPE and others. I used KEM. You could transform that engine and make 600 horses and almost 1,200 ft lbs. of torque, run close to 18-23 MPG, and last over 300K miles easy. The 6.4L had a lift pump that could flow ungodly amounts of fuel, stock compound turbos running building an easy 40#s of boost, and a fuel rail that could deliver gallons straight from Navistar, all with easily managed exhaust temps. Components that now cost thousands of dollars to make a new diesel make power came STOCK on the 6.4L. Sounds crazy, but my truck could turn an 11.98 quarter, and pass anything on the road towing a trailer. Just find a 6.4L burning dirty from the tail pipe, and you will have your hands full at a stop light. There are a lot of deleted survivors still out there. The rest are probably dead from EGR. I kept that truck for 8 years, and it was tough to let go.

Pittsburgh diesel had made a living converting C-15 Caterpillar engines back on the road as Glider kits because once you strip the EGR, you have a reliable monster. So successful and popular, a bone yard C-15 block are becoming scarce and almost priceless.

Today, EGR is still used as a very small supplement to SCR, which uses DEF to treat NOx in the exhaust after it has left the engine. As time goes on, less and less EGR is used, and more sophisticated SCR makes diesels whole again.

The 6.0L Powerstroke? Yeah, total junk and not worth its price in scrap metal. ..
