Building a Storage/Guesthouse this Winter

Post by Cycleman6 »

Well, I decided to build a building/garage this winter, so been trying to figure out sizing for the building. We decided on a combo build. Makes my wife happy, and me happy with storage for the boat. The building itself is 36x42; however, the garage for the boat, jet skis, mower, etc will be 22x42. The other side of the building will be built into a guesthouse/AirBNB with 2 bedrooms, kitchen/living area. That area itself will be 14x42. Using a general contractor to build it, and they are starting grading work and clearing the land Monday. Couldn't stand to let the boat sit outside this winter! These things really are expensive aren't they!

I don't think anyone can top Tusc's thread and pics from last year. I've reached out to him a little during this process. I'll defintely get some pics during the project. Called the marina today and told them not to be in any hurry getting it back to me this winter! :)

Trying to decide if I can get by with a 10x10' door, to keep the building at 12'...Or do I spend the extra money, get the 12'x12' door, and the building be built at 14' high

No, not necessarily, but man, building a 14' building gets really tall!

Exciting, isn’t it? I hear you about leaving your boat outside in the weather. No-can-do. I think most of us Cobalt owners are very anal, except the guy who wants to fish out of his R5😂.

Lots to consider. We tossed around different heights, sizes, door height, width.
14’ is high, but if you want to back it in without folding the tower, that’s what you will need. 12’ should be plenty folded.
Our building has 12’ eaves with 10’ X 10’ doors. More than enough width. Since we went with the folding bimini, clearance isn’t an issue.

The hard part is spending money on the stuff you can’t see, and it all comes first....
I think we brought in 30 ten wheelers of screened gravel. Solid base means no cracks, no water coming back in, and no movement, and if you get it high enough, you can pipe your roof drainage and floor drains to daylight.

Or cut the tower off his 360😂😂
Make sure you add drains to the floors. I also like having hot and cold water and a sink in mine. Heat would be a bonus. Lol
