Looks like Malibu bought Cobalt.

Wow they must have really wanted that swim step.

Interesting for sure. I don't see it having a huge impact since Malibu is definitely top class for their category. Who knows maybe it will improve the WSS series.

That is unexpected. I wonder how much influence one brand will have on the other? It seemed like Cobalt was moving more toward Formula for a bit, until all the WSS and smaller boat innovations the last couple years.

Floored here... However, looks like a good move by Malibu to move into the larger boat segment.

Haha!

Aside from that, Holy Sh@t!

They've always been a top tier producer and certainly one of my favorites as I've mentioned on this forum before... but wow, just wow.

My buddy that owns a dealership here has Bu. He's like how does the public find this out before he does.lol and he always picked on my old man boat with a wheel chair lift for a tower.lol
The other thing is they are on opposite sides of the country.
Should help both companies I hope.

That's the hope... I wonder what the reality is though. Do they stay in Neodesha? lots of questions...

I'll weigh in and say I'm sorry to see it happen. With mergers come expectations of efficiency and financial returns. Cobalt was a family business, and I feel that can not be replicated by new management or a a board of directors. My guess we will see both some good and bad from this acquisition - the way they usually turn out. I was out in my 232 yesterday - sure do like that boat. :)

I agree. When a family owned business is sold, the original mission objective ALWAYS changes to something else.
I expect profit and the commitment to Neodesha will eventually change to meet the new owners objective.
I guess time will tell, but I don't see how a surf boat company advances anything Cobalt.

Since it's fairly close I think I'm going to make a trip up there in the fall and go on a tour before too many changes happen. Kinda sad and exciting at the same time. I'm sure there will be changes but who knows if they'll be good ones?

Time will tell on this acquisition. One thing I hope Bu does is end the silly Cobalt practice of limiting parts availability for only 7 years. That is the only thing about Cobalt Boats I do not like. I wonder if Bu will keep the Cobalt name? There is a lot of value in that.

I doubt they bought Cobalt to kill Cobalt.

I'm thinking it may be like when some of the gun manufactures moved over seas. The old ones made in the good ol' USA suddenly increased in value. Maybe those of us who have the old boats manufactured by the original Cobalt factory will see our depreciation slow down a little. Just thinking positive here.
