Mystery Switch Under Dash

Post by lastbuck »

OK. Today I checked out all of the switches to make sure all they controlled really worked. There were a few on top of the dash for accessories not installed on my 230. On the bottom of the right side of the dash there was a rocker switch that controlled the brightness of the dash lights. Right next to it is the mystery switch. It’s the same round switch as on the top of the dash, but no label. Pushing it seems to do nothing. There’s not even a small red light that comes on. My boat, new to me, is a 2011 230. Does anyone know what this mystery switch is supposed to operate? Thanks for any info you might be able to provide.

.
Sounds like the engine safety kill switch.
I have one under my dash that allows a plastic lanyard to insert between the toggle and the base. If you clip the other end to your life jacket it causes the engine to stop by pulling the switch if you accidentally get thrown from the boat.

Does that sound familiar?

If you have any pics it may help us to identify.

Here is mine...

The emergency cutoff lanyard attaches to the throttle/shift unit separate from the dash. I was at a Cobalt dealership this morning. One of their mechanics told me the button is to toggle through the different functions displayed on the multi-function display. I’ll check it out, but I believe he’s right.
