Looking for any advice on modifying dashboards. Any 2000-2007 262/263 owners have an experience drilling through the plastic/metal dashes?
Looking to bore out center hole from older Sony remote and want to avoid cracking any plastic.

No experience either, but if you are looking to enlarge it, I maybe would go at it with a sanding wheel on a dremel vs. a drill bit or hole saw. Go easy and check often.

Re: Dashboard Modification
Anytime you are using a hole saw to cut through something brittle that could crack or chip, here's some tips :
Drill the pilot hole first with a separate drill bit. Then, use some masking tape to tape over the whole area the hole saw will contact. Next, chuck the hole saw in your drill and insert the pilot bit through the hole you already made, but set your drill to run in reverse. Run the hole saw in reverse against the surface until you have cut completely through the tape and filled away the top surface of the material. In the case of fiberglass, you'd do this through the complete gel coat layer. After that, run the drill normally with a light ish feed into the material. Some plastics will melt - for those, you should withdraw the saw periodically and clear the material after its cooled and then restart.
Good luck!
