Ramifications of not summerizing?

Post by sailor55330 »

So what happens if you don’t take a boat out during the summer but instead leave the boat winterized? Given everything going on our season will be very short and may not even get the boat out. Depending on how my wife’s back heals we may not get the boat out—-who knows

I pick it up to use it 😂
Yea that may suck.
I'm not a fan of not running things and getting them moving. I myself would rather take it out a few times and redo the W early if that's the case.

Had this happen about 7 years ago due to family illness. Since I had already started the engine in early spring, I had to re-winterize in the fall. Since I had a full tank that had been stabilized, I siphoned out all of the fuel that I could & put it in my other vehicles. Then I put in fresh non-ethanol fuel and re-stabilized.

Since then, I don’t fill up the boat before having it winterized. I also don’t use fuel with ethanol in it. Never know what will happen.

If it's wet winterized (left antifreeze in block) then you'll want to drain it and either leave it empty or refill with fresh -80. +1 on the fuel, even stabilized it won't last more than a few months and will need to be drained. Other than that, have any other water lines blown out, keep the batteries on a tender, and put a few pumps of grease in anything with a zirk and she'll be ready for you next spring.

If you can summerize it run it long enough to get the gas out of it and then winterize again. I’ve bought 2 used boats that sat for a couple years winterized. And had nothing but problems with them at first. Due to gummed up fuel lines, bad gas etc.

I’ll check my schedule but you may have to run it with out us.

Unfortunately even a 1 day boat ride is better then letting her sit. Remember you have exhaust and intake valves are “ open” on the engine. Along with open fuel systems and ethanol content your Cobalt will thank you for cleaning her out and stretching her legs.
Play your season by ear and we all hope your wife’s healing goes well regardless of boating.

Exxxxxcellent! Its settled then. We gotcha cover Sailor. Just let us know when you're not looking. A7 you want in? BB and Matt will be there. Liquid? Tuscany? Nauties? B? Bum? Akro? I know I missed a few but everyone is invited. Sailor would you please be sure to stock the fridge with beer and snacks? And please get some of that fancy water for A7 and Driller? Neither one partakes. In alcohol that is...

And Bum likes those little cucumber sandwiches. With mustard. He even eats them with a pinky sticking out. I think it's kinda lame, but I don't wanna say anything to him for fear he'll kick my arse.... I'm pretty sure he can pull it off, even with bad knees.
