New member on Beaver Lake

Post by BeaverLakeR5 »

Hello fellow boaters. After browsing this forum for several months, I figure it's time to make an introduction and become a more active member. As the title suggests, I boat on Beaver Lake in Northwest Arkansas. It seems Cobalt's are a dime a dozen on this lake and we all know why!

I sold my previous Cobalt (2005 246 w/merc 496) to a good friend last fall and took the winter looking for the next boat. Between my buddies, we have the gamut of boat styles covered (cruisers, go fast, surf, pontoon, etc) so the choice to stay with a bowrider was an easy decision. Although I briefly looked at other brands, Cobalt was really the only brand I considered. I went to the Tulsa Boat Show to see if we could make a deal on ordering a new R5. It turned out they had a leftover 2018 with 95% of the options I wanted and they were ready to deal on it. After some back & forth for a couple weeks, I signed the paperwork the first of March. I've had the boat in my storage unit until last weekend when we finally had weather nice enough to drop her in the lake & put her on the lift. For those interested, it is a 2018 R5, VP380, windlass, trim tabs, tower, etc....you can see the rest from the pics.

I look forward to getting to know everyone. Picture time (dealer's trailer...I still need to order mine)....

Thank you! I got lucky with finding this boat locally because the dealer typically stocks everything with either a 300 or 350, no windlass, & no trim tabs. The 380, windlass, and trim tabs were must haves for me which is why I assumed I would have to order since that combo is hard to find around here. I guess this boat was meant to be!

The maiden voyage was great. The responsiveness of the VP is phenomenal and the handling of the hull is much quicker than my 246. I'm very happy so far. It had 5hrs when I picked it up & my goal for last weekend was to get past the 10hr break in point. I accomplished that early Sunday.

Thank you sir. I was hoping to get all the pics in a single post but it only let me post 3 at a time. File size issue or simply a forum setting? Or am I an idiot and didn't do it right?

I have always been a mercruiser guy but it didn't take much research to learn the current generation of VP was the way to go. The 380 is a nice match for this boat. Of course I'd love to have the 430 but the $$ doesn't make sense.

I'm a huge Jeep fan. That particular Jeep was 4 Jeeps ago right before I built it. I find half the fun of Jeep ownership is building/tinkering with them. The only way to head out to the boat dock is in a topless Jeep, right?!? :D

Amen brutha.

Four jeeps ago....wow...you are a Jeep fanatic! Let’s see some of those pics too.

...and your picture posts are perfect my friend. The bb code software of this chat forum apparently only allows three at a time. Maybe we can improve that functionality down the road with a software upgrade if we get enough traffic.

In the meantime, keep those trifecta pics comin’. :D

Beautiful boat. Thanks for sharing. It looks like it is very well optioned. You mentioned it has 95% of what you wanted, do you mind sharing what additional options you'd have ordered? Visually, it looks like it has everything. :) B

Welcome from just further down the chain of lakes! As I’m a Table Rocker!

Beautiful R5 and great options! I have the same motor in my r7 and I love it.

We are having a meet up in early June on Table Tock. You should pull it on up for the meet up!

Welcome from California!
Beaver lake is amazing and picturesque!! We got our Cobalt there a few years ago and I was in heaven. Yep Cobalt or bust there it seems, and they specialize in Red! Yes we have the windlass as it apears to be a common option where you are !
Looking to hear your lake travels and hang out spots.
