Torpedo transducer mounting location?

That’s exactly what I plan on doing, thanks for the pic! I’m going to replace the small factory shields with a single chrome through hull fitting.

For what it's worth, I stuck mine down in the center of the bilge with blue tack, the sticky clay stuff that you can get at a hardware store, to act as a thru-hull of sorts. It loses the bottom at cruising speed (30-35 mph) if the depth is over 60-70 ft, but it works great up to 120 ft when anchored or idling around in coves (which was my main intent when installing it). It's been mounted this way and working well for almost a year now and it even detects fish size and depth pretty well.

I heard it will give you depth, but no contour. There's no in hull which gives side scan or contour.

@akorcovelos: Yep. I read that you need to epoxy it down and make sure there are no bubbles, but I just carefully applied the blue tack without any gaps and stuck it on there real good. No drilling was required because I was able to run the cable up the bilge and through the gunwale to reach the chartplotter (a Hook-7). @Driller: That makes sense. My transducer is a Broadband Sounder with DownScan Imaging...so no SideScan capabilities. The DownScan overlay does show bottom composition pretty well through the hull though, which helps when anchoring. When I upgrade to a newer setup in the future, I'm sure that I'll be mounting a transducer astern too but, for now, I'm pretty happy.

I might try that on my SIMRAD GO7 (after I install). I didn't know it would work in an " In Hull" configuration.

One advantage, at least from an installation perspective, is that you can move it around if needed to get the best performance or remove it easily if you decide to go a different mounting route (which is really not the case with an epoxy based in-hull installation). I had originally planned to only use it like this temporarily, but it's been good enough in my opinion, so I've left it alone. Also, I've never tested it in water over 120-130 ft deep, so if your lake coves are deeper than that YMMV on this type of solution.

Driller was the 5 just too small to see?
I've been thinking the 7 as well but not sure I can make it fit where I want it?

I can see it ok (just ok), but I don't like the way it only partially covers the hole and one of the other members posted the GO7 mounted with the flush mount kit and it looks much better. I have the G07 and the flush mount kit, I just need the time to mount it.

Yeah, with the flush mount it will be. I think my measurements show it is between 1/8 -1/4" too big to fit exactly perfect. This is one of the reasons I have held off, the install will have to be perfect and my dash is getting narrower in the area where I will mount it which further complicates the situation. I'm thinking I will track down the member who posted the pics and see if he has any tips, but I haven't had time. He mounted his in a 2011 242 like mine if I remember correctly.

I've taken the flush mount down to the boat and did a little sighting on it. It won't be perfect, but neither is the black gaps on each side of my GO5.

I'm thinking I can pull the plate, and get it mounted perfectly, but I may need to take a little dash out also depending on how the unit fits.

Isn’t it hard to see it there when you’re under way? Seems like the steering wheel would block part of the screen, and you’d need to look down to far to really see it.

When I look at options. I don't want it on top of the dash. I want it built in. So I think that is the best spot for it on our dash. That's where my depth finder is right now anyways.
Driller. What transducer are you going to use? I found one unit that includes the total transducer. And one with just the hdi unit. The total is 11 inches. Kind of a big thing to have having off the back of the boat unless your DP's.
I will never use it for fishing. I don't even know how many times I'm use the screen as the lakes I boat on in pretty familar with. It's just for the 1 or 2 times I go for a road trip.
The only other bad part is being nmea2000 is the end is large and a big hole is getting drilled through the transom.
I believe they both do water temp but I didn't see air temp. I'm sure you can add that into the system along with engine data. Here goes another grand
