Another dock question

Post by tfarmer »

For those of you with your own dock, how tall roof posts will I need to get R5 in slip and on lift with bimini top up? I've read that the R5 with bimini up needs a minimum bridge clearance of 98". My dock guy is wanting to know if I want 10' or 12' roof posts.

I’m figuring the 2 R5/7 we have here that barely clear out 12ft roll up door on a trailer.
All depends on hoist bunk height etc. I’d like to add a cover on ours but I’d make it go up with the hoist to keep it low.
Pics may help if what your working with

Go as high as reasonably possible. Makes it easy for walking through the boat in the "up" position and will allow options for a automatic cover in the future.

Our dock roof was pushed high enough to clear our old 293 with the bimini up. The 343 still clears easily and allows me to walk the deck and only bump my head at the bow.

Well I got the new dock yesterday installed. They builder is about 90% done. A couple more ridge cap pieces and the cupola. I went with 12’ roof poles. Now I’m second guessing this decision. My wife says it looks a little obnoxious and makes our boat look small. The boat is not on lift due to not having power at dock yet. The dock to the left of me has 9 1/2’ poles and the one to the right has 10’. My dock looks really commercial compared to theirs.

I guess go big or go home.

Congratulations! It’s awesome! And just because your Niebor can barley squeeze a pontoon boat In his ( With his Bimini down).. I would not worry. His actually looks incorrect.

Besides there looking over your way going.” Damn that looks like a real boat house”

Once your lift is in it will be proportional.
Plus the ability to have lighting and a cover system will be priceless.

This is the “ worlds best boat cover “. ( that’s actually the name). It will be a great addition as Holy mentioned.

I totally agree with Matt. That dock in the background is going to look at yours and consider adding extensions! Once your boat is on the lift you'll like it more.

And that cover in Matt's video is the bomb! Now I want one.

Thanks Matt.. 😠

Surely you meant to say they will admire his big dock? They all are the ones that have the small ones...

A couple of more photos of my dock and my neighbors next store just for perspective. They are finishing today with the remainder of the flashing and the cupola.

More dock pics next to the dock my wife wanted ($25K more expensive). I decided to go all steel with composite decking instead of aluminum.Roof truss design.

Awesome, a dock that big is going to handle DPs just fine!

Seriously kick ass setup you got there.

Looks great! The lakes here don’t allow metal or wood roofs on boat docks. I have to lower my power top on my R5 to get it in my lift but the power screens mean I don’t have to cover it when I’m gone for four or five days.
