What is the rpm limit that I should be able to achieve with a 282 496HO? The front end seems to ride high no matter what I do with the out-drive, and porpoises more than usual. I had 5 teenagers in the front with 11 people total and it still rides higher than normal. There is no water in the bilge that would be causing the issue.
So far with only 600 lbs between 4 passengers and 1/2 fuel...trimming has only gotten me around 4600 rpm's before it would blow out. Just curious if any other 282 owners have done prop changes.
I am currently running the stock 3 blade 22P Bravo Three props. I don't know the out-drive gear ratio at this time, but will on Friday.
The Prop shop at the lake is telling me that I need to go to a 4 blade front and 3 blade back at 20P. When you go to a 4 blade prop, you have to go down 1 size in pitch just to be where you were originally. They say that this will bring the front down, ride more level, and get the rpm's up where they need to be.
Let me know if any of this information that I am getting is incorrect. Thanks!
The skeg guard was put on by the dealer i bought it from. I have not taken it off yet to see how bad the damage to the skeg is.

Hey Patriot.. you’re pretty close with the pitch vs Rpm. Ideally 4900 is max but you have to consider optimum weight and wet load.
These hulls like a neutral drive setting at cruise speed.( The plane of the lower outdrive is equal to the plane of the hull is neutral).
My one question is in the picture you have shows the trim rams are in the forward hole of the lower. Depending on transom angel it may be your outdrive was removed and put in a different hole ? Hard to tell in the pic but it’s possible your not able to suck the drive fully in.
It’s worth a look as it happens at times on mercury bravos when there removed. Let’s make sure she’s in the furthest out hole.
Our 282 has Volvo’s but has hardly any bow rise and only like 1/4 trim before porpoise is felt.

Thanks for the reply cmattj. I will check that out and see what hole they are in.cmattj wrote: Tue Jun 18, 2019 2:34 pm Hey Patriot.. you’re pretty close with the pitch vs Rpm. Ideally 4900 is max but you have to consider optimum weight and wet load.

Re: Prop change on a B3 282?
The trim rams were in the forward position instead of the rear and that was corrected (thanks cmattj). I removed the skeg guard and cleaned up the front of the skeg as best I could. It is banged up, but not bad enough to cause issues.
The old props were a little beat up by the previous owner and after talking to several prop shops, I went with new stainless steel ones. I went with a 4 blade front 20P prop and a 3 blade 20P rear. The front end stays down like it should, I can pull 4700 rpms with 9 people (with a little trim), and with 3 people can get 4900 - 5000 rpms. I watch my gauges constantly and do not over rev the motor. This boat flies now and I picked up 5 mph from the previous setup. The hole shot is awesome now compared to before.
