Performance Upgrades?

Wondering if anyone had done any performance upgrades to their stock 5.7L Volvo Penta DP? I have a stock 155 hrs, and she does around 54 mph. Had other boats with Captains Call exhaust and would like it again, but with the extended swim platform that leaves me with side exhaust. I am bit nervouse to install it this way. Also considering a super chip program change. Told it would increase HP about 30-50 hp, and would make it do able for a F7 prop set. Anyone do anything like this or otherwise? Love to hear from you.

Hey Bill,

Just added the switchable CC exhaust to my 263 last week and it has both the normal as well as the extended swim platforms. Corsa makes it specifically for Cobalt and it fits under the platform. Even thought yours is a smaller boat, are you sure it will not work under the platform?

Below is a link to Corsa Performance Marine which allows you to put your specific boat information into the drop down boxes. Then the part numbers appear. I have included a screen shot for your boat. Just not sure if this is rear entry or side entry. A phone call will clear that up.

Thru hull exhaust may give you another 2-3 mph, but I have not confirmed that myself. There's a reason Fountain's, Cigarette's, Skater's and other Go fast race boats use it. If it slowed the boat down, you would not see it exiting out thru their hulls. And 2 mph is a big difference on the water. Of course the sound is a big selling point as well.

I would steer clear of the "quick and easy" chip program change. If it were that easy, the manufacturer's would put it into their boats in an instant.

If you can get it to spin f7s I have the perfect set of hill marine props for you. It costs plenty to get a few mph on a boat. The 226 it's the fast hull for cobalt. Mine hits a wall over 55.can't wait to run her with the props fixed though.

This is Door County Wisconsin.
Lots of money and famous people. Great clean water. You have Green Bay on one side and Lake Michigan on the other. In Sturgeon Bay Wi you can take a short cut shipping channel and go from Lake Michigan to Green Bay in less than a half hour do you don't have to go all the way to the top of the thumb to go around to head down to Green Bay's port.

What a great trip for a Cobalt!

It does look like she could stir up in a hurry. We keep an eye out constantly with Great Lakes boating. Certainly gotta respect her power.

Oh yea it can get ugly in a hurry. They both have claimed their share of lives.

Yup, growing up i spent many weeks on the bay. There was always someone getting in trouble out on the water. I know of many boats that went down.
