New Member in Dallas

Post by Motex2011 »

I just purchased a 2014 R5 with 380 Mercruiser Bravo 3, 130 hours. Just waiting on some paperwork so we can take it out this weekend to Lake Murray in OK or to Possum Kingdom which will be our home lake when all gets settled. We are originally from Missouri, so we are used to Table Rock Lake and lakes that live up to TL standards are hard to come by in Texas, but PK is pretty nice. Wife and I went a few weeks ago and the place was crawling with Cobalts. It was part of my evil plan to get approval to buy one and it worked. In just a few hours, my wife was picking out the Cobalt's in Hell's Gate and talking about how beautiful they were. In just about an hour she uttered the magic words "I'm not saying we can get a boat, but what are you thinking?" I bought this girl 2 weeks later after a long drive to Nebraska. In case you are wondering, I have a 2018 F150 with the 3.5 ecoboost and it pulled fine. An F250 would have been better, but mine handled the weight just fine. Gas mileage going to Nebraska 21.4. Coming home, 6.0. Thankfully, it has a 36 gallon gas tank.

I look forward to meeting other members on PK. As you can see, we won't be hard to spot. There won't be many like this on the lake.

Welcome from TRL your former home! Love the all red. Infact me and the wife were sitting on the back of the boat yesterday saying if we would have done an all red R7 we would have named her “lady in Red” just a thought 😎.

Can’t wait to see more pics and hear the captains report. Maybe one year you can tow her on up to table rock for the Regatta!

Welcome from Texas Hill Country. Awesome looking boat!! That boat will definitely turn some heads. If you ever venture South, Travis is a fun lake.

Great looking boat!!!!! PK is also where we call home.
Hopefully we can find each other out on the water. You could say I have the little brother to your boat.

Great looking boat. Welcome from CA / AZ.

Wow, only 6 MPG towing. We tow our 232 with our 2009 F-250 with the much-maligned 6.4 Powerstroke and when on the highway you barely can feel it. We have not towed it far enough to estimate towing mileage though but I would expect about 13.

Thanks for the replies everyone. After numerous calls to various state agencies in Texas and Oklahoma and a trip to the Texas DMV for a temp tag on the trailer, we are locked in on our trip to Lake Murray this weekend. The only negative is that we won't have access to an overnight slip, so the wife and I will get practice launching and recovering the boat. I know I shouldn't, but I'm too ready to get this thing out and stretch her legs. We should be out Friday afternoon and a good part of Saturday. Depending on how we handle that sun and fun, we may boat some on Sunday. After that, we will probably head over to PK and will definitely be there the weekend after Labor day for sure. If I have my way, we will try to go over at least one more weekend and I would like to go Labor Day weekend to see how it does on a busy weekend. I bought it to eat up some wake, so that will be a good test.

If you see us on the lake and don't mind us rafting up to you, just wave us over and we can tie off and visit. Otherwise, we will just drop anchor and hang and try to control our smiles and joy. One more little Pic.

I was hoping for 8 to 10 MPG and was around 9mpg for about 100 miles heading west on I-80 out of Omaha, but when I turned south, I hit wind and it fell off the map. My total trip was about 650 miles and I drove through a variety of terrains, but that wind was pretty consistent and brutal. But, it felt 100% safe and under control. The gas gauge just dropped really fast.

We are on a list for some very nice enclosed storage near PK for this year and then we will look for a slip next spring.
