Teak removal questions - 2003 262

I am wanting to embark on a project to remove the factory-installed teak and replace it with either Faux Teak SeaDek or Faux Teak Aquamarine SeaDek. I wanted to reach out to the group to find out what kind of job I am signing up for? Primarily, how hard is it going to be to remove the original teak flooring? (Teak is installed on the step up to the pass-through, the pass-through and swim platform. It appears the teak was screwed down and attached to the gel coat/fiberglass?
1. Is it as simple as popping out the screw plugs, unscrewing the teak and removing it or is it much more involved?
2. Is the teak glued down and will I completely have to destroy it to remove it?
3. Will there be holes in the gel coat/fiberglass that need to be filled/repaired once I remove the teak, before installing the new pads?

Sorry remove some screws and find out. Yes you will have to fill the holes in the gel. Other than that I have no idea. Let's get this project going and shows us some pictures of her.

As BB said you're going to have to just commit and run as this. But order the new stuff first so you'll have it. Seadeck or Aquamarine. But anything Aquamarine tells you, get it in writing. I've ordered from the 3 times, and they'll tell you what you want to hear then try to back up later. But they're one of the few that'll add a logo if you want it.

Pop the plugs and back out the screws, and use something thin to get under and pry it up. I'd also try a heat gun to soften the glue a bit, just be careful. Also, don't go into it thinking you can save the teak. If you can, then great, but I'd focus more on getting it off.

The seadeck material will cover any screw holes, but I think I'd probably use a high quality sealer and pucky every one of them to keep leaks and seepage at bay.

Once it's all off use acetone to clean the deck. And take pictures! Post your journey and bring us along!

My .02 but the Teak was a rare option on the 262's I would look into getting it refinished before removing. Like I said my 2 cents take it for what it is worth.

I've seen some really bad looking teak brought back to life.

Save save. I oil ours once a year with Starbrite Gold teak oil. Last 3 years I haven’t sanded anything. I prefer the darker gold plus I’m lazy.
Mask it off with blue tape and Apply with a cotton rag. Easy as it takes longer to mask it then to oil it!
Or visit “donotremoveteak.com” kidding.. Save the teak!!

As you can see in Matt's picture they have teak wood screw plugs that cover the screws.

Thank you all for your responses. I can understand each of your points. Regarding refinishing the Teak...I realize it's borderline blasphemous to rip off the fairly rare, teak upgrade. My teak is actually in good shape, looks almost identical to Matt's and with some TLC could be made to look brand new. That said it's rigid (obviously, b/c it's wood), it can be slippery when wet and warm/hot in the TX sun. However and most importantly, it's not functional for me at this time. I have a 10-year-old son that figured out this summer he loves to wakeboard and teak is absolutely not practical for that. I am done having to tip-toe around the teak, putting down a towel, making sure the board doesn't scratch it...so it's going to have to come off. I am leaning toward the Aquamarine, b/c I want a logo. Thanks again for the input.

Hey I understand! I had brand new seadeck on my boat when I bought it but didn't like the color, so I switched it out, and some thought it a bad idea. But it's your boat, and if you want to rip that stuff off and replace it with something more practical I say "gett'r done"! Just dont try sawing off your arch if you have one. You might catch a little flack for that...

Thanks! I only did the back and little on the front. My carpet is new so maybe when it wears out? Who knows...
I ordered from aquamarine. This time of year it seems like they're little cheaper than they are in the spring. And it's super super easy to install.

Tape half of it into place. Lift the other half and peel off the backing. Stick it down, now lift the other side and peel it off. You're done!
