Thanks! I'm considering a Richter now, primarily because the 24 lb'er is a bit unpleasant to retrieve. It could still be used as a stern anchor though, to minimize swing when anchored in tighter quarters.

Finally got to use my richter anchor this week. 18 pounds on a 22 footer. I have to say I am so far impressed. It seems to find the bottom without fluttering like my old danforth and bites instantly. The danforth or fluke seemed like it needed to drag a bit before catching. I haven’t tested it in trying conditions yet but initial impression is that I like it. And it fits in my anchor locker!

I have both the 15# Digger anchor, and the large Box Anchor. I have not used the box anchor, but purchased it this spring after fighting the Digger anchor to hold on hard bottoms. I will continue to use the Digger but will carry both on board in case I have to pull out the Box Anchor to stay put.

Where are you keeping the box anchor on your boat? Does it fit folded in the front anchor locker?

i have it in one of the large storage compartments in the bag. I haven't used it yet, and it's only there for a backup. I know the digger is easier to get in/out of the anchor locker, so that's my primary one.

I'm beginning to have a serious love/hate relationship with my large box anchor.

I love the way it holds if given enough scope. I hate how much mud it brings up. I love the tip on here how to clean it by leaving it slightly under water and backing up. I hate how it is too heavy and akward to keep in the anchor locker, I now keep under the bow cushion as it is easier to lift out.

What I really hate is what it did to my big toe yesterday. As I was hauling it in I was standing on the filler cushion. As soon as it cleared the water, I got it caught on the rub rail area, so I jerked it free. I lost my balance and fell back onto the other filler cushion and the floor, with the anchor hitting my foot. Ouch. At least I didn't bleed on the carpet. Big toe is many colors now.

So, I think I will carry a Danforth and give that a try next time if the winds are light.

I bought the Fortress FX 7 4LBS anchor and very impressed. Fits in my locker, (barely) and it's the lightest anchor I've ever pulled. Might be a little under weight for my boat in high winds but so far it's been great.

This one I struggle with. Our bottoms are some of the weediest I've ever seen. When I pull up an anchor, I have 2-3ft of weeds hanging off of it every time. I literally have to cleat the anchor and then pull the weeds off--takes about 2-3 mins. I have the Danforth that came with the boat (14lb I think) and it doesn't do a thing, even when I back down on it. Now, I've successfully set anchors in mud many times when I was sailing, but the weeds change the game. I probably need to add 6ft of chain. I also have a 15 or 18flb mushroom that really doesn't hold very well either. I've read really mixed reviews about the Box anchor and talked to them....they weren't really inspiring confidence as I described our bottom conditions, but they did offer a 100% money back guarantee. I'm still deciding on this one for the R3. My gut tells me go with a much bigger mushroom.

Several on here use the Digger anchor. Has the release where the flukes drop straight down when hauling in so the weeds and dirt drop straight down as you’re pulling it. There’s a vid showing an fishing guide using it in a weed bottom lake.

I started using a digger anchor this year and love it's holding power, have yet to have to throw it twice.
Though my one thing is it has never dropped straight down. Then it is usually coming out of mud so maybe the mud isn't strong enough to hold it before it releases.
Wish it would release but either way, love it.

Now that I have the box anchor on board, my Digger Anchor has been rock solid this year! Set it maybe 8-9 times so far and it's held like a champ every time. And to edit, my box anchor is the small one, not the large. So I hope it holds when we ever need to use it.

And with the digger anchor, I hav found that you really need to give it a sharp yank from straight above, and it will release the flukes. If you just pull steady it never releases.

So what I normally do is I will pull until it sticks, then let the rope back out and as soon as I do that the flukes release and it comes right up. I have only had it feel stuck ones this season. and I anchor every weekend for the most part.

I have the small Box and it holds my 242 just dandy. It fits nicely in the anchor locker.

We have a box anchor and love it! We have a 2007 200 and it fits folded in the anchor compartment.

I'm going to try that cleaning trick tonight. Good tip, because they do bring up the bottom!

Regarding the Richter anchor, has anyone had issues with the vinyl covering wearing from the spikes? It seems at risk for such. Or getting cut from rocks?
